Al Harrington didn't need a conversation with Mike D'Antoni to understand why he was pulled from the starting lineup for yesterday's 117-110 loss to the Denver Nuggets at the Garden. "I think, without even having to talk to him," Harrington said, "we lost five in a row." And now it's six in a row. Harrington, who entered the game second on the team in minutes played, had 15 points in 26:13 and shot 5-for-12 from the field. Earlier this month, he carried the offense and earned Eastern Conference player of the week with an average of 33.3 points in a three-game span. In the two weeks since, however, his effectiveness has evaporated as his shot has betrayed him. In six games since his 33-point performance in Sacramento on Dec. 13, Harrington is shooting 34.6 percent.

Robert Sarver and Steve Kerr are determined to stash Steve Nash for the next few years. If Nash knows what's good for him he will snatch Suns' security when offered before it dawns on management he's a budding shadow of the MVP he was two, three seasons ago. A visiting scout saw what I saw. Al Harrington's length and Nate Robinson's fleet feet had Nash constantly complaining to the refs about non-calls and yelling at teammates once or twice for not getting open. "Steve used to be able to get around anyone anytime and could pick apart any defense with his passes," the scout said. "That stopped being the case last year, but it hasn't stopped him from trying, and the result is often a turnover."

Mike D'Antoni joked that maybe the Knicks could get Seton Hall on their schedule. The way his New Jersey guys played back in their home state, he should try for Rutgers and Princeton, too. Al Harrington scored a season-high 39 points, fellow New Jersey high school star Tim Thomas also had his best game of the season, and New York rallied to beat the Nets 121-109 on Wednesday night.

No team takes more 3-pointers than the New York Knicks. The Atlanta Hawks tried to keep pace, and it almost cost them the game. The Hawks made only five of a season-high 26 3-pointers, but escaped with a 98-95 victory over the Knicks on Friday night when New York's Al Harrington missed a last-second 3 that would have forced overtime.

With the trade of Al Harrington to the Knicks, the curtain has come down on Chris Mullin's reign as GM of the Warriors. Larry Riley, a recent import with Golden State, was performing all of the Warriors' GM duties the last few weeks, signaling the end for Mullin, whose contract expires at the end of the season. The one exception came when several teams called the Warriors in the days leading up to the Harrington deal on Friday to attempt to propose a 3 way package. "When it comes to Harrington and New York, that is between Mully and Donnie", Riley informed one Eastern Conference GM, referring to Knicks president Donnie Walsh. "They go back a long time".

Donnie Walsh will pull the trigger on his 1st significant move as Knicks president. Knicks sources said a deal for Al Harrington was to go through late yesterday, but was delayed until today. A league conference call is planned for this morning that would bring the disgruntled Warriors forward to the Knicks, presumably for Malik Rose.

The Nets have had talks with Golden State involving multiple players, including unhappy Warriors Al Harrington and Marco Bellinelli. The Warriors would like either Josh Boone or Sean Williams. The Nets were not interested.

Not surprising, the Raptors' perimeter starters have been outscored 143-84 over the past 3 games. And it follows that the Raptors have talked with both the Golden State Warriors and the Bobcats about trades, as stated by 2 league sources, with an eye toward correcting that kind of imbalance. The Warriors are looking to move Al Harrington, and the Bobcats are looking to trade Gerald Wallace. Each is a veteran small forward who would be an upgrade on the inconsistent Moon. Harrington has the more attractive contract, his deal will expire in 2010. The slashing, ball-hawking Wallace might have the more attractive game, though the 5 years and nearly $50 million (U.S.) he has left on his contract comes with more risk, particularly given Wallace's concussion history.

The Knicks are among about a half dozen teams that have made inquiries about 6-9 forward Al Harrington, who is awaiting a trade from the Golden State. The Knicks likely would would like to offer buried-on the bench center Eddy Curry, whose salary is a close match, but a person with knowledge of the Warriors' thinking said Curry does not fit with their up-tempo system, either.

Don Nelson is committed to giving his young Warriors players a chance and also to decreasing the minutes of Al Harrington after describing the forward as "disgruntled" whilst he waits to be traded. Nelson got good production from his bench and his old standbys.
