Salim Stoudamire has escaped pro basketball's burial grounds, the Atlanta Hawks, and now will play for a winner. The ex Wildcat shooting player signed with the San Antonio Spurs and expects to replace the 3 point shooting threat of Brent Barry and perhaps Robert Horry.

Salim Stoudamire has escaped pro basketball's burial grounds, the Atlanta Hawks, and now will play for a winner. The ex Wildcat shooting player signed with the San Antonio Spurs and expects to replace the 3 point shooting threat of Brent Barry and perhaps Robert Horry. In 3 years with the dismal Hawks, Stoudamire averaged only 17 minutes per game and was often slowed by a chronic ankle injury.

The Houston Rockets signed free agent Brent Barry to a 2 year contract Thursday, making him the 3rd member of the family to join the franchise. The 6 foot 7 Barry played 31 games with San Antonio last season and shot 43 percent (48 for 112) from 3 point range.

Still looking for a short term solution to their lack of shooters, the Suns are taking a 2nd shot at coaxing Brent Barry to Phoenix. However, much like his most particular prowess, Barry is one of the top 3 point shooters around, the chances of getting him are a long shot.

Sources said a report that Barry, who turned down his player option (at the veteran's minimum of $1.262 million) with the Spurs on July 1st, has had talks with the Suns.

The Lakers continue to wait for Sasha Vujacic and Ronny Turiaf, however they have fall back plans in case their restricted free agents do not re-sign with them. The Lakers have talked with representatives of Boston small forward James Posey and veteran San Antonio sharpshooter Brent Barry to gauge the free agents' interest.

Not long after the Spurs' 97-94 win over the Mavericks, Brent Barry made it as official as he is allowed to by NBA rule, It is his intent to re-sign with the Spurs, only as soon as those rules allow. In addition to the Spurs, Barry was tracked by 4 of the NBA's top teams, the Celtics, Rockets, Mavericks and Suns.

The Suns got another phone call and some more text messages Wednesday from free agent guard Brent Barry however still no decision. Barry informed teams he could have a decision Tuesday.

Suns GM Steve Kerr got to shake hands Tuesday with the NBA's most coveted free agent, Brent Barry, however there is no handshake agreement that Barry would join the Suns. Between scouting games at Kansas State Monday and Vanderbilt Tuesday, Kerr dropped in on the San Antonio home of a wavering Barry to make a 2 hour pitch to him and his wife, Erin, on the day that Barry's decision was expected. Barry only whittled his candidate list to San Antonio and Phoenix, leaving them to wait for an answer Wednesday.
