Jason Kidd retired Sunday. From USA Basketball competition, not his position with the Mavericks, with whom he is entering the final season of his $20 million a year contract. There is no better way for Kidd to bow out of international basketball, having earned his 2nd gold medal Sunday whilst extending his record to 56-0 in Olympics, Olympic qualifying and exhibition games.

The Mavericks re-signed forward Devean George Monday, nearly 6 months after the veteran player blocked a trade to the New Jersey Nets. George played his 1st 7 seasons for the LA Lakers before signing with the Mavericks in 2006. Terms of the deal were not immediately available.

The infamous radio interview when he admitted that smoking marijuana, the ill-advised birthday party after the Mavericks lost 3 of their 1st 4 playoff games to New Orleans, and the recent attempt to emulate a NASCAR driver, which resulted in an arrest for going 94mph in a 55-mph speed zone, are lamentable decisions on Josh Howard's part.

You can debate whether the return of Devean George makes the Mavericks better. There is no question, however, that Mark Cuban's readiness to put his grudge with George's agent aside to get the deal done is a good sign. Cuban made no secret of his displeasure with Mark Bartelstein after George blocked the original Jason Kidd trade based on his advice.

Sarunas Jasikevicius does not mince words, He blames most of his problems in Indiana on former Pacers and current Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle. "Obviously, the (up-tempo) style of play Rick promised me was never there, the opportunities to play were never there, and the players who were supposed to be gone by the time I came were still around", he said.

Mavericks forward Josh Howard was arrested in his hometown after police mentioned he was drag racing at nearly 40mph above the posted speed. He is charged with going 94mph in a 55mph zone, careless and reckless driving, and speed competition. He was released from the Forsyth County jail on a written promise to appear in court in September.

The legal battle between Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and former coach Don Nelson is in the end over. Nelson, now the Golden State Warriors' coach, won about $6.3 million Thursday in his arbitration case against Cuban in a ruling by retired judge Glen M. Ashworth.

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban must immediately pay Don Nelson $6.3 million, an arbitrator ruled in settling a long running battle over the former Dallas coach's compensation package. Nelson, now the Golden State Warriors' coach, claimed the money was owed to him from his time with the Mavericks from 1997-2005.
