In his own, low-key way, Lakers center Andrew Bynum was critical of Coach Phil Jackson's substitution pattern in the fourth quarter of tonight's 118-117 loss to the Indiana Pacers. Bynum was with the second unit of Jordan Farmar, Sasha Vujacic, Lamar Odom and Trevor Ariza when they blitzed the Pacers with a 17-0 run to end the third quarter and give the Lakers a 15-point lead. Bynum was with that group when they built the lead to 16 early in the fourth. But after that reserve unit turned the ball over four times in the first 2:44 of the fourth, made one of three shots and saw a 104-88 lead cut to 104-96, Jackson pulled Odom, Farmar, Ariza and Vujacic and replaced them with the starters. Bynum stayed in with Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Derek Fisher and Vladimir Radmanovic. But Bynum was taken aback that the reserves were yanked. He had found his groove with that group during their run, scoring six of his seven third-quarter points. "The second unit played well, got a 16-point lead in the fourth quarter. We were all taken out with six minutes to go in game," Bynum said. "We didn't get any rebounds [after that]. I don't know what to say about that."

After all the anticipation, after a full year of rehabilitation and hard work to return from microfracture knee surgery, how could Greg Oden get injured in the 1st quarter of the Trail Blazers' opener against the LA Lakers Tuesday night? Oden suffered what was labeled as a "mid-right foot sprain" when he came down on Laker guard Derek Fisher's foot on the 3rd play of the game.

When Derek Fisher faced a crisis, he has no problem prioritizing. Tatum came 1st, and everything else must fall into place. Fisher flashed a smile Monday at the mention of his nearly 2 year old daughter, whose battle with retinoblastoma, cancer in the left eye, drew national attention last spring.

Before the statement by the NBA late Wednesday, league spokesman Brian McIntyre mentioned referees Joey Crawford, Joe Forte and Mark Wunderlich could were following a league guideline in failing to make a call on Derek Fisher.

Derek Fisher still has a soft spot for the Jazz. That being the case, he would love nothing more than a date with his former team in the 2nd round of the playoffs. "I am pulling for them in terms of those being my guys, guys that I am close to", the LA Lakers' point guard mentioned after practice Wednesday.

Kobe Bryant's injured finger is no problem, as he proved whilst waving goodbye to Sacramento. Pau Gasol is doing fine on his sprained ankle, and Derek Fisher's right foot is not slowing him down. Even Vladimir Radmanovic's head is screwed on straight as the healing LA Lakers roll toward the playoffs.

Derek Fisher has a partially torn tendon in his right foot, an injury that typically requires 6 to 8 weeks of rest, even though the Lakers point guard will attempt to play through it.

The Lakers did not must cross the line. They were doing just fine behind it. Derek Fisher scored 17 points, Kobe Bryant had 16 and the Lakers went on a 3 point shooting spree in the 2nd half of a 119-82 rout of the Clippers Friday. "I think what we did is that we stepped up our pressure", Bryant said.

Phil Jackson plans to move Kobe Bryant from guard to small forward in order to give Luke Walton more breaks, leaving Derek Fisher and Jordan Farmar to handle the backcourt. Lamar Odom also might be moved to small forward from power forward.
