DeSagana Diop signed a 5 year, $31 million deal with the Mavericks Wednesday, 6 months after Dallas sent him to New Jersey in the Jason Kidd trade. The Mavericks used their whole midlevel exception in their 2nd free agent deal with Diop since 2005.

The Mavericks had to give up DeSagana Diop to get Jason Kidd. Now, the 7 foot center is headed back to Dallas. Diop agreed Wednesday to a $31 million, 5 year contract with the Mavericks, as stated by a person close to the negotiations who requested anonymity because NBA rules prevent the deal from being signed until next week.

The Mavericks needed a backup big man behind Erick Dampier when DeSagana Diop was included in the trade for Jason Kidd.

The Mavericks signed free agent Jamaal Magloire to add depth at center that is been missing since DeSagana Diop went to New Jersey in the trade for Jason Kidd. Magloire should be available for practice Wednesday and would play as early as Thursday when Dallas visits San Antonio.
