Kobe Bryant did his job. The Orlando Magic did, too. The Los Angeles star scored a season-high 41 points, but Magic center Dwight Howard made eight of 11 free throws in the fourth quarter, and Jameer Nelson had 27 points to lead Orlando to a 106-103 victory over the Lakers on Saturday night.

Dwight Howard came back on Thursday night to help the Orlando Magic take yet another step in their bid to join the NBA's elite teams. Howard had 14 points and 13 rebounds after missing two games because of a sore knee, and Jameer Nelson scored 24 points in the Magic's 90-78 victory over perennial Western Conference contender San Antonio.

When Stan Van Gundy's top three guards went down with injuries, the Orlando Magic won. When Dwight Howard, his All-Star center, missed a couple of games with a sore knee, the Magic won. The way Orlando is going, it may even be able to get a smile out of its notoriously pessimistic coach. "He is happy, but you won't see it," forward Rashard Lewis said of Van Gundy.

Could Dwight Howard be going from Superman to super sub? The All-Star center missed the first game of his career on Saturday night, and coach Stan Van Gundy joked he might not get his starting spot back after the Orlando Magic used a dominating third quarter to beat the Utah Jazz 103-94.

The Orlando Magic are on a roll, and still learning. They were inconsistent and had to rally to take a 95-88 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday night. "It was a weird game, but we've got to learn how to close things out," said Orlando's Dwight Howard, who had 23 points, 22 rebounds, six blocks and four assists.

Dwight Howard had to settle for only a double-double this time against Oklahoma City. The Orlando Magic had to settle for an ugly win. Howard had 21 points and 23 rebounds and the Magic overcame poor early shooting and turnovers to beat the Thunder 98-89 on Friday night.

Dwight Howard, Rashard Lewis and Hedo Turkoglu are still standing. And that's enough for the Orlando Magic, who keep winning despite an injury decimated backcourt. Howard had 23 points and 14 rebounds, and Lewis also scored 23 points to lead the Magic to a 100-89 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night.

The Wizards were helpless against Dwight Howard. The NBA's leading rebounder, Howard had 26 points, 14 rebounds and 3 blocks to help the Orlando Magic beat the Wizards 105-90 on Thursday night. Orlando has won 8 of its last 9 games and 6 in a row on the road.

Dwight Howard was still standing, and that is all that mattered for the Orlando Magic. Howard had 24 points and 13 rebounds as the Orlando Magic outlasted the Bucks 108-101 Monday night in a matchup of injury-depleted teams. Richard Jefferson scored 25 points to lead Milwaukee, which lost Andrew Bogut to a knee bruise in the 3rd quarter.

Dwight Howard might be regarded as the best center in the NBA by the end of this season, but Yao Ming let him know that the debate still has a way to go before it is settled.
