It is (mostly) all about friendship and good will this time of the year. Which brings us to the great thaw, the lifting of the freeze between Clippers General Manager and Coach Mike Dunleavy and the now injured Elton Brand of the Philadelphia 76ers. The once-close duo had a falling out in the summer when Brand opted out of his contract, leaving the Clippers and Dunleavy in the cold. Months of mysterious silence followed and you just had visions of Dunleavy sadly staring at that final text message from Brand in July. Communication resumed when the Clippers were in Philadelphia on Nov. 21. They shared a warm moment, and Brand later had another memorable moment of his own, making the game-winning shot against the Clippers. Dunleavy said at Clippers' practice Monday that he and Brand exchanged Christmas e-mails. "He said he's coming back for [tonight's] game," Dunleavy said, smiling.

One coaching switch is paying quick dividends. The other is looking like a disaster. The battle of interim coaches went to the Philadelphia 76ers for the second time in less than a week, with Tony DiLeo's team persevering through the loss of leading scorer Elton Brand to pull out a 109-103 victory over the Washington Wizards on Friday night.

Philadelphia 76ers forward Elton Brand will be sidelined for a month because of a dislocated shoulder. Team officials said Brand has a fracture and tear in his right shoulder, but will not need surgery. Brand was hurt on Wednesday night in a win over Milwaukee.

The 76ers signed Elton Brand and Andre Iguodala to $80 million deals in the offseason and gave another $25 million to Louis Williams because they believed they could contend in the East. When the blossoming Sixers nucleus stumbled at the start of the season, it was Maurice Cheeks who paid the price.

Philadelphia forward Elton Brand will miss Friday's game at Detroit with a strained right hamstring. Brand had an MRI on Thursday and did not travel with the Sixers. He is listed as day-to-day. Brand didn't play the final 17 minutes of the 76ers' 114-102 loss to the Lakers on Wednesday when he first complained of the injury.

Elton Brand loved LA. He enjoyed the lifestyle and the bright lights of Hollywood, even fancying himself a would be movie mogul. Yes, Brand even loved playing for the Clippers. He was the face of the long suffering franchise and called his relationship with coach Mike Dunleavy "as good as player and coach could be."

Elton Brand scored a season high 25 points, Andre Miller and Andre Iguodala each had 18, and the Philadelphia 76ers snapped a 3 game losing run by beating the Toronto Raptors 106-96 on Wednesday night. Willie Green scored 17 points and Marreese Speights had 12 for the 76ers, who won for the 1st time in 4 road games this season.

Elton Brand's face is plastered around Philadelphia, from print and Web ads to billboards to the side of busses where he smiles at drivers whilst they are stuck in rush hour traffic. It is hard to travel around the city and not be struck by the welcoming image of the 76ers' $80 million blockbuster free agent acquisition.

Andre Miller said that he has not had any talks with the Sixers about extending his contract, but he is interested in staying after the coming season. He also mentioned that he met with coach Maurice Cheeks in L.A last month and that he sent a handful of e-mails and text messages to Stefanski and senior vice president Tony DiLeo during the NBA draft and after the buy of free agent Elton Brand.
