The San Antonio Spurs acquired veteran forward Kurt Thomas from the SuperSonics Wednesday for guard Brent Barry, center Francisco Elson and a 2009 1st round draft pick. The 6 foot 9 Thomas, in his 13th NBA season, gives the defending NBA champions much-needed size to complement Tim Duncan.

The Franchise collapsed in a heap on the floor, writhing in pain and clutching his knee. Instinctively, Spurs center Francisco Elson knew that this was no good at all. "Anybody going down is scary", Elson said. "But especially if it is Tim Duncan".

Spurs center Francisco Elson will undergo surgery next week to repair a broken left orbital socket, an injury sustained whilst he was playing for the Dutch national team. The Spurs mentioned Elson should be able to resume limited basketball drills one week after his surgery and should be cleared for full contact activity my mid to late September.
