I have talked to a couple people, one from the Pacers camp and another from the Nuggets camp, this morning and both sides said point guard Jamaal Tinsley has not been traded to Denver for point guard Chucky Atkins and center Steven Hunter.

Pacers president Larry Bird downplayed the report, which appeared in Friday's New York Post, saying the team would not comment on "trade rumors" involving any of its players.

Locked out Pacers point Jamaal Tinsley was traded to the Nuggets for Chuckie Atkins and Stephen Hunter, The Post has learned. The deal is contingent on Tinsley passing a physical. Chronically injured over the last 4 years (only once playing more than 42 games) and embroiled in violent encounters on 3 separate occasions (none of which he instigated), he spent all summer in Atlanta rehabbing his body and is mentioned to be a good condition.

Jamaal Tinsley will remain on the Pacers roster whilst the team tries to trade him, however the guard will not practice with Indiana when it opens training camp Tuesday. The team will not buy out Tinsley's contract, Pacers president Larry Bird mentioned Friday. "He will stay wherever he's at until we get something done.

When the subject shifted to whether the Heat could have any interest in signing potentially released point guards (League rules prohibit Pat Riley from discussing players on other teams, so he did not mention anyone by name) Stephon Marbury or Jamaal Tinsley, Riley essentially played the "we are broke" card.

Jamaal Tinsley remains on the roster, however the Pacers have taken steps to distance themselves from the point guard. They have removed Tinsley's nameplate from the locker he used at Conseco Fieldhouse and he is not expected to be at the team's media day Monday.

The Pacers' Larry Bird and David Morway are anxiously waiting for the phone conversation with a fellow league GM that has the 2 sides agreeing to a trade involving Jamaal Tinsley. beat writer Ivan Carter did not think the Wizards could be that team because Tinsley has 3 years and $21 million left on his contract.
