The New Jersey fans who showed up to thank Jason Kidd at the beginning were thanking Mark Cuban by the end. Cuban signed off on the trade that sent Devin Harris to New Jersey, a deal that looks better for the Nets all the time. Harris dominated his former team with 41 points, helping the Nets ruin Kidd's return with a 121-97 victory over the Mavericks on Friday night.

Jason Kidd turned a loser into a winner, then knew it was time to move on when he realized he couldn't take the New Jersey Nets any further. And as he returns to New Jersey for the first time since he was traded, Kidd prefers to focus on the good times he and the team had before things went sour last season.

The Mavericks were missing No.2 scorer Josh Howard, and Dirk Nowitzki was getting extra attention from Indiana's defense. So Jason Terry and Jason Kidd came to the rescue. Terry scored 16 of his 29 points in the 4th quarter and Kidd hit a pair of key 3 pointers to help the Mavericks rally from a 13 point 2nd half deficit for a 109-106 win over the Pacers on Tuesday night.

Joe Dumars had the chance to consider Dallas' Jason Kidd and his expiring contract over the summer, a league exec said Monday, but the Pistons president had bigger, bolder ideas. Allen Iverson still gives the Pistons a puncher's chance in the Eastern Conference this season, but this trade is not about him. It is not about Chauncey Billups. Think bigger. Think bolder. Think LeBron James, 2010.

As the Nets started to decline (the '03 Finals appearance was followed by a 2nd round exit in '04 and a 1st round sweep in '05) there appeared to be a rift forming between the core of the team, namely Jason Kidd, Richard Jefferson and Vince Carter, and management, specifically head coach Lawrence Frank and president Rod Thorn. Good players, particularly big players, were being allowed to leave with the Nets getting little or nothing in return.

Do not worry. This is not a case of Jason Kidd paying off a Charles Barkley-sized gambling debt. He's only fulfilling a promise to Elaine Wynn of Wynn Casino fame. "Last summer, we stayed at the Wynn close to 3 weeks", Kidd said. "We met at a banquet, we got to talking, and she really understands the game. I informed her I'd make a deal with her, that if we won the gold medal, I'd give it to her.
