Terry scored 31 points, and Dirk Nowitzki added 24 points and 12 rebounds in the Mavericks' 96-86 win over the Rockets. Howard, the Mavs' 2nd leading scorer, was inactive due to a left ankle injury.

Josh Howard's absence did not come close to explaining the Mavericks latest disappointment. Pick on the defense if you want. The L.A Clippers did. Of course, the Mavericks offense did not really inspire poetry. Poor defense and bad offense will do a team in every time, even when the opponent is a Clippers team that had been winless until Sunday's 103-92 breakthrough. However, that only scratches the surface as to what bothers the Mavericks these days. After the team's 4th loss of the young season, Dirk Nowitzki questioned the team's effort and said it was coasting.

Josh Howard received a mostly positive reception from fans at American Airlines Center Tuesday. From his coach, it was nothing short of rave reviews and unbridled optimism. Howard had taken the 1st step toward putting his controversial summer behind him, getting mostly cheers mixed with scattered boos when he was introduced in the Mavericks' starting lineup.

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban mentioned that forward Josh Howard realizes his comments about the national anthem were wrong and the player has apologized. In his online blog, Cuban also responded to e-mails he got commenting on the player's remarks by saying Howard "will work with us" and "beyond that, it is a private issue.
