The LA Lakers signed free agent forward Josh Powell Thursday. Terms of the contract were not released. The 6 foot 9 Powell, a 3 year NBA veteran, spent last season with the L.A Clippers, averaging 5.5 points and 5.2 rebounds in 64 games. Powell has career averages of 4.2 points and 3.6 rebounds in 138 games with Dallas, Indiana, Golden State and the Clippers.

The Clippers added frontcourt depth Tuesday by signing former North Carolina State forward Josh Powell. Elton Brand, the Clippers' starting power forward, ruptured his left Achilles tendon earlier this month and expects to be sidelined for the 1st several months of the season.
