Injuries to Josh Smith and Al Horford left Marvin Williams as the only healthy starter on Atlanta's front line. Williams moved from small forward to power forward and showed he can play big when needed.

Hawks coach Mike Woodson and Josh Smith finally had their training camp dust up Tuesday, ringing in yet another year together. Woodson called his team together in a practice ending huddle and started his speech by telling his team that they needed to take their game to another level with the regular season approaching.

Marvin Williams scored 19 points, Josh Smith had 18 and the Atlanta Hawks spoiled Terry Porter's debut as Phoenix coach, rallying to beat the Suns 100-96 Wednesday night. It was the 2nd win in 2 exhibition games for the Hawks, who also defeated Orlando Monday. Williams and Smith got lots of offensive support.

A team source said the Pistons did approach the Atlanta Hawks weeks ago about a probable sign and trade deal involving restricted free agent small forward Josh Smith, however mentioned Sunday that the 2 teams have not talked in weeks. The source indicated the Hawks were asking for too much, and both sides walked away from any probable deal.

Scratch Philadelphia from the list of NBA teams pursuing Hawks restricted free agent forward Josh Smith. With Elton Brand out of the picture, the Clippers are suddenly in the market for a forward. Smith is presently in L.A on "business", as stated by his agent.

With more than $11 million in salary cap space available, the 76ers dove into free agency shortly after the bell rang at 12:01 a.m. yesterday and targeted Josh Smith, the young and talented forward of the Atlanta Hawks, as their primary prospect, however not their only one. The 6 foot 9 Smith, a restricted free agent, was contacted by the Sixers almost immediately.

Josh Smith wasted no time taking advantage of his restricted free agent status, spending Wednesday visiting the Philadelphia 76ers, a franchise with a lot of cap room to make a big offer. The 22 year old Smith toured the city and visited the Wachovia Center with Sixers officials, who would like to woo the forward away from Atlanta with an offer sheet too expensive for the Hawks to match.

The Hawks were pointing to this day since October. They have made it clear that their top priority in the summer was signing restricted free agents Josh Smith and Josh Childress, keeping them in Hawks uniforms.
