The Nuggets re-signed restricted free agent J.R. Smith to a multiyear contract Friday. The 22 year old guard averaged 12.6 points for the Nuggets over the past 2 seasons. He shot nearly 40 percent from 3 point range, the best percentage in team history for players with at least 100 3 pointers.

The Cavaliers are talking to Denver about restricted free agent J.R. Smith, and they should go after him hard. The 6-6 Smith is athletic, shot 40 percent on 3 pointers and 46 percent overall whilst averaging 12.3 points in only 19 minutes a game.

J.R. Smith made so lots of boneheaded plays in last year's postseason that he got a benching and a public scolding from his coach. After working his way out of George Karl's doghouse this season, the new and enhanced Smith has led the Nuggets to the cusp of a return trip to the NBA playoffs.

J.R. Smith was a one man breakaway, his eyes widening as he sprang toward the basket, the ball rising over his head for a rim-rattling windmill dunk. Clank! It bounced off the iron and back toward halfcourt, the crowd moaning and coach George Karl nearly tipping over backward in his chair.

There will be numerous talks among the Nuggets brass about J.R. Smith. He will be a restricted free agent in the summer. If the season had finished in January, the J.R. discussion would have been different than if the season ends today.

Chauncey Billups was hoping to redeem himself in front of his hometown crowd. J.R. Smith made it unnecessary. Billups' foul put Smith on the line with 6.5 seconds left and a chance to tie the game, however Smith missed 2 of 3 foul shots, allowing the Pistons to escape with a 98-93 triumph over the Nuggets Monday.

The Pacers squandered another lead against the Nuggets, however this time they found a way to win. Mike Dunleavy scored 30 points, Shawne Williams had 21 and the Pacers, thanks to J.R. Smith's missed free throw with 2.7 seconds left, held off the Nuggets 112-110 Tuesday.

Thad Foucher, agent for Nuggets guard J.R. Smith, mentioned he's continuing to have conversations with Nuggets exec Mark Warkentien about a probable contract extension for his client. Barring an 11th hour move by today's deadline, Smith will become a restricted free agent during the offseason.

Carmelo Anthony and Von Wafer each scored 17 points, leading the Nuggets to a 119-107 win over the L.A Clippers Tuesday in the 1st exhibition game for both teams. Marcus Camby had 13 points and 23 rebounds for Denver. J.R. Smith scored 15 points, however was 0 for 7 on 3 pointers.
