Denver made it clear months ago that Allen Iverson was not a fixture in its future when management cut off conversation concerning an extension. When teammates snubbed last season's tri-captain by electing Carmelo Anthony and Kenyon Martin co-leaders, the conclusive bell had clanged to confirm Iverson's time in Denver was rapidly drawing to a close.

The Nuggets require their position players to step up if they will sneak into the playoffs this year, and Kenyon Martin did his part Wednesday night. With Allen Iverson and Carmelo Anthony held to a combined 22 points, Martin had a game high 23 as the Nuggets routed the Memphis Grizzlies 108-86.

No Carmelo Anthony meant someone had to step up. Kenyon Martin figured it might as well be him. So did Linas Kleiza. Ditto for Marcus Camby. The Nuggets had a cast of players fill the void left by Anthony's absence in a 107-100 triumph over the Atlanta Hawks Wednesday.

Tim Duncan came up wincing and grabbing his right thumb after being raked across the arm by Denver's Kenyon Martin with 7:24 left in the 3rd quarter. He stayed in the game to shoot 2 foul shots, making one, and then played most of the 4th.

New Orleans center Melvin Ely has a broken left eye socket that will keep him out of the lineup when the Hornets play at Dallas Friday. Ely was hurt when he was elbowed by the Nuggets' Kenyon Martin during the 2nd quarter of the Hornets' 105-99 loss in Denver Wednesday.

As Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin gets set today to have the latest MRI on his right knee, his teammates are collectively holding their breath. Nuggets trainers and coaches designed the early part of the season to gradually bring Martin along.

Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin received some good news Monday when an MRI on his surgically repaired right knee found only a bone bruise. Martin is listed as doubtful for Tuesday night's game against Indiana and will be day to day after that.

Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin has pledged to be patient in his recovery from microfracture surgery, and that is how he is staying. However, the itch to play is there. Now, there could be a date as well.

Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin mentioned Tuesday he expects to be healthy and playing again opening night. Monday, the 6 foot 9, 240 pounder ran in an uptempo treadmill workout for the 1st time since he last played, November 3 against Minnesota.
