Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge and coach Doc Rivers were more than surprised by the NBA's suspension of Kevin Garnett for last night's 110-101 win over the Knicks. "When I heard they were investigating it, I thought, 'Was there something that happened after the game, were there things said?'" Ainge said of the incident involving Garnett and the Bucks' Andrew Bogut Saturday night in Milwaukee. "But the act itself, I never dreamed it would warrant a suspension. Those kind of plays happen 3 times in every practice. That is a pretty common basketball play. I commend Kevin for his restraint." Instead of a commendation, though, Garnett was suspended and fined one game's salary, about $250,000. Garnett fouled Bogut under the basket, Bogut appearing to strike Garnett's mouth with his follow-through, Garnett pushing away. Both were assessed technicals but no further penalties on the skirmish after the lead official Bennett Salvatore viewed the replay. Bogut did get removed because it was his 2nd T.

The Celtics were disappointed in their display in a loss to New York last week, and Kevin Garnett and the rest of the NBA champions would like to send a reminder that they do not mail in games, even ones that do not count.

Of all the issues Doc Rivers had to deal with in his 1st summer as an NBA champion, replacing the free agents who left, working on his golf game, figuring out what to wear to the White House, there is one thing that never came up. "I cannot imagine even seeing a laid back Kevin Garnett", Rivers mentioned Monday.

I know, how dare I mock Kevin Garnett? How lots of times have we seen the $20 million plus wonder beat on his chest, pull on his jersey and scream obscenities after dunking several schmuck during the regular season? Now here he is at the highest plateau short-arming freebies whilst stumbling around inside guarded by giraffe Pau Gasol either taking fade-away jumpers or looking to have the refs bail him out.

Lakers officials claim it was all however a done deal, Lamar Odom, Kwame Brown and Andrew Bynum for Kevin Garnett, upon pending approval by Minny owner Glen Taylor. That is when Kobe Bryant got publicly bent out of shape concerning the Lakers' supposed rebuilding methodology and deferral of title wave aspirations.

Whilst Kobe Bryant and the LA Lakers used an explosive offense to reached the NBA finals, their defensive adjustments were critical as well. Now, after getting past the likes of Utah's Carlos Boozer and San Antonio's Tim Duncan in the Western Conference playoffs, they face perhaps their most daunting challenge in Boston's Kevin Garnett, a versatile 7 footer who can do damage from the inside as well as the perimeter.

3 stars. One basketball. Zero complaints. Boston's Big 3 of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen are playing for a championship in their 1st year together, finding success in the kind of selflessness only losing can teach.
