During a long interview last week with a reporter, Shaquille O'Neal said Phil Jackson orchestrated the tension with Kobe Bryant in order to motivate both players. O'Neal said he never had a problem with Bryant. O'Neal also suggested he would be open to returning to the Lakers when he becomes a free agent in 2010. "Keeping his options open, huh?" said Jackson, whose current deal with the Lakers ends after the 2009-10 season. Bryant is signed through the 2010-11 season, but is eligible to opt out of his contract next summer.

Lakers owner Jerry Buss, 75, was relaxed and humorous on Sunday in an interview, revealing with a glint in his eye how badly he would like a Finals rematch with Boston whilst also saying how much he would like to keep Kobe Bryant if the 10 time All Star became an unrestricted free agent next July. Along those lines, Buss said he would continue to pay luxury taxes on an annual basis "if that is what it takes to win".

Shocking as it might sound, the LA Lakers broke out of a shooting slump Sunday night. Shocking because they have not lost a game so far this season. Kobe Bryant scored 23 points, Pau Gasol added 20 points, 15 rebounds and 3 blocked shots, and the Lakers shot 65.8 percent in the 2nd half in a 111-82 win over the Houston Rockets.

The winless L.A Clippers were giving the unbeaten LA Lakers all they could handle until they had taken a 4th-quarter lead. Suddenly, the game turned. Kobe Bryant scored 27 points, and the Lakers used a late 22-0 run to beat the Clippers 106-88 on Wednesday night, giving them 6 straight wins over their crosstown rivals.

This was not really the new look Carmelo Anthony was talking about. Kobe Bryant scored 33 points and the LA Lakers nearly became the 1st team in 3 years to hold Anthony to single digits in a 104-97 win over the Nuggets on Saturday night.

Kobe Bryant had 16 points and 8 rebounds, Andrew Bynum added 12 points and 9 rebounds, and the Lakers spoiled the Clippers season opener with a 117-79 rout Wednesday night.

Spoiling rookie Greg Oden's debut in the process, which was cut short by yet another injury. Bryant orchestrated a well-balanced offense for the Lakers, who also played tenacious defense.

"Just making sure my rhythm was good, making sure my knee was good", Bryant said.

Ronnie Brewer and Paul Millsap each scored 13 points, Deron Williams had 11 points and 8 assists, and the Jazz beat the LA Lakers 99-90 Tuesday in the preseason opener for both teams. Kobe Bryant played 24 minutes for the Lakers, finishing with 8 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists after sitting out the whole 2nd and 4th quarters.
