Injuries to Josh Smith and Al Horford left Marvin Williams as the only healthy starter on Atlanta's front line. Williams moved from small forward to power forward and showed he can play big when needed.

Marvin Williams scored 19 points, Josh Smith had 18 and the Atlanta Hawks spoiled Terry Porter's debut as Phoenix coach, rallying to beat the Suns 100-96 Wednesday night. It was the 2nd win in 2 exhibition games for the Hawks, who also defeated Orlando Monday. Williams and Smith got lots of offensive support.

What a homecoming it turned out to be for Marvin Williams. Reporters swarmed around Williams in the locker room after he scored a career high 33 points to lead the Atlanta Hawks to a 99-90 win that extended the SuperSonics' losing run to a franchise-record tying 13 games.

The young, high-flying Atlanta Hawks are maturing rapidly. Josh Smith scored 22 points, Marvin Williams and Josh Childress both added 16 and the Hawks snapped a 7 game losing run at Philadelphia with an 88-79 win over the 76ers Monday. Joe Johnson scored 15 points and Al Horford had 12 points and 13 rebounds for the Hawks (7-9), who last won at Philadelphia on March 21, 2003.

The latest scenario had the Suns getting Kevin Garnett for sending Amare Stoudemire to Atlanta and the Hawks delivering Marvin Williams, James Jones, Kurt Thomas and multiple draft picks to the Timberwolves. Atlanta also could have picked up another player.
