Pistons coach Michael Curry is looking forward to working with the team's new starter, and he's not talking about power forward Kwame Brown. Curry was not talking about Brown, the 6 foot 11 former No.1 draft pick who split last season with the Lakers and Grizzlies.

Kobe Bryant, who lives for one-on-one challenges, went at it with former Trojan and soon to be Memphis Grizzlies rookie O.J. Mayo, a member of the U.S. Select team, last week in Las Vegas. "Kobe completely shut him down in the starting", mentioned U.S. managing director Jerry Colangelo.

Will he play in Memphis next season? That appears to be a 50-50 proposition as Javaris Crittenton, a 6-5 combo guard, is probably the odd man out in the 5 way guard conundrum facing the Grizzlies. Crittenton, whom Memphis acquired in the Pau Gasol trade with the Lakers in February, is expecting to have another address new off his summer workout and the realization of where he fits in the pecking order.

The agent for Memphis' Javaris Crittenton mentioned Monday that the Magic were in trade talks with the Grizzlies about the 2nd year point guard. NBA teams are not allowed to comment on the availability of players affiliated with other teams.

O.J. Mayo, the 3rd overall pick by the Memphis Grizzlies in last month's draft, made the most spectacular shot of his career Monday night at the NBA Summer League. Mayo converted a desperation three-quarters court shot from 69 feet to beat the 1st-quarter buzzer against San Antonio. Mayo, who shot it with both hands from straight away, rattled it through the rim.

First round draft pick O.J. Mayo signed a multiyear contract with the Memphis Grizzlies Tuesday. Memphis got the rights to Mayo, the No.3 overall selection, in an 8 player trade only hours after the NBA draft ended.

The Heat have requested waivers for forward Alexander Johnson, who appeared in 43 games for the team last season. Johnson signed with the Heat as a free agent in August 2007. He played one season with the Memphis Grizzlies before joining Miami.
