Even when Timberwolves manager Kevin McHale declined to extend Sebastian Telfair a qualifying offer before free agency began, he knew he would like the point guard to return to Minnesota. On Tuesday, the sides reached agreement on a multiyear deal to make that happen.

Kevin Love was held out of the Timberwolves' summer league game Sunday afternoon against the New York Knicks for precautionary reasons with an inflamed left Achilles. He left in the 2nd half of Minnesota's game Saturday against the Bucks with the same injury, which team official do not consider severe.

After watching Craig Smith develop into a hard-working rebounder and efficient scorer off the bench in his 1st 2 seasons in Minnesota, Timberwolves manager Kevin McHale decided to bring the undersized power forward for another two. McHale signed the restricted free agent to a 2 year deal Thursday that runs through the 2009-10 season.

The Timberwolves rated 7 foot Brook Lopez from Stanford as a nice kid when he worked out for them recently, however nowhere near worth their No.3 pick in the June 26 NBA draft. Best bet if the Wolves decide to draft a center is UCLA's 6-10 Kevin Love, who will work out for them at Target Center.
