Scenario 1:
LAL have 12% change to get #1.
Draft Towns #1. Draft night trade.

LAL: T Lawons & W Chandler

DEN: J Hill, N Young, '15 1st & 2nd rd pick (via HOU, #27 & #34 picks).

They still have about $15M available in cap space. try and offer max salary to either Leonard or Butler (worth a shot even if their teams end up matching). They can split the MLE between Aminu & McDaniels. Best case scenario:

PG: Lawson/Clarkson
SG: Kobe/Chandler/McDaniels
SF: Leonard/Aminu
PF: Randle/Kelly
C: Towns/Black/Sacre

Worst Case Scenario:

PG: Lawson/Clarkson
SG: Kobe/W Matthews/McDaniels
SF: W Chandler/Aminu
PF: Randle/Kelly
C: Towns/Black/Sacre

No one wants that garbage. That trade with Denver made sense. Until you snuck in its a end of first round pick. No chance you get Denver to take your awful contracts AND gain assets.

The nuggets get our 2 picks

18 May 2015 15:05:36
27 and 34? Those aren't worth muxh. You def aren't having Denver take on 2 contracts AND give you Lawson AND chandler for those 2 low value picks.

18 May 2015 17:30:33
J Hill's contract is non guaranteed. They don't have to pay him the $9M if they don't pick up the team option on his contract. All they're taking on is Yong's for about $5M.

Young is for like 3 years. It's a worthless contract. And hill isn't a positive. Even if they don't take on the contract, they are left with a bad player in young and 2 not so great picks. It's worthless for them.

But Lawson doesn't want to play for the nuggets anymore either

19 May 2015 00:40:07
So they give him away for very little to the lakers as opposed to getting comparable value from other teams? Well that makes sense.

19 May 2015 01:43:19
The value is J Hill's contract & the 2 picks. You have to have near even salaries to trade somebody. Lawson will make $12.4M next season. The Nuggets have to get somebody in return for close to that amount. With Hill, they can decline his team option and save Lawson's salary and add it to their cap space. That, along with a late 1st rd pick and an early 2nd rd pick (which is non guaranteed) is of value to a team who is rebuild mode. Maybe the addition of Chandler isn't quite fair, but why not try first? They can negotiate chandler into the deal somehow, or keep it with T Lawson.
