76ers / 4th of July
What better time to ignite some fireworks.

Since my last idea of trading for tobias harris doesn't have a chance(Orlando planned on matching any offer, and gave harris a huge deal), let's PLEASE get the sixers some backcourt help. can't seem to find any news on Wrotens recovery time schedule, so I;m assuming he's not going to be ready for the start of the season. I like giving stauskas a shot at SG, with McCrae and Thompson in reserve roles. PG is another story. Canaan, ish, McConnell, p.Jackson?? All third string pg's at best in the NBA.
1. Sign jameer Nelson to a one year deal. Bring back the home town kid to finish his career, help the young guys, and bring a little excitement to philly. A cheap way to excite the fans a little and help the team. I know he's 33 years old, but he did average almost 10 pts per game in 20 min while he was with Denver last year.
2. We say goodbye to sims, sampson, ish, trob(signed with nets), canaan(awful), jrich, grIII(medium dog), and aldemir(i'd rather develop richaun holmes, more potential). These guys are like old clothes that don't fit anymore. get rid of them.
3. Sign Corey Joseph to share pg duties with nelson this year.
PG: Joseph/Nelson/Wroten
SG: Stauskas/McCrae/HThompson
SF: Covington/Grant/Mbah a Moute
PF: Noel/JThompson/Landry/Holmes
C: Okafor/Embiid
Realistic 30 wins next year, but much more competitive with actual NBA caliber players. These moves make us better this year, but keeps it open for all the #1 picks we have coming in. Add a few more studs with our high draft picks(thanks Lakers)next year and replace a few of the role player(hthompson, Mbah a moute, landry, and nelson)to name some possibilities.

Don't count out the lakers getting a top three pick because no one thought we would get the number 2 pick from the beginning of the season

04 Jul 2015 18:32:59
Lakers, Sixers, Knicks, kings, nuggets, hornets, twolves( although drastically improved, only won 16 games last year and are in the west), magic, pacers, and nets look to be bottom 10 teams next year. Sixers having their own pick, the right to swap picks with the kings, and the top 3 protected pick from the Lakers look to be in a pretty advantageous spot no matter how you look at it.

04 Jul 2015 18:41:17
The Lakers haven't reached any agreements on free agents yet. They're best bet for a free agent center is K Koufos. They get to keep their pick of its top 3. Don't be so sure you'll get that pick next year.

Also, 30 wins is a bit optimistic in my opinion for your 76ers. 25 tops. That's 7 more than they got last year. Okafor isn't worth 12 wins alone just yet. Give him a couple years.

04 Jul 2015 19:07:55
I can't believe what I"m seeing from the Laker contingent. Russel's a good player. Randall's a good player. Kobe is probably still a good player for a year. Lakers win 25. The should have won about 25 last year but they tanked at the end.

Sixers added a real center, Noel moves to the weak side, Covington is pretty good. Stauskus? Who knows. Hope to get 12ppg from him. Wroten is pretty good. As long as they don't play roster roulette again, I think they win 30.

To be honest, I think the Lakers were depending on signing a BIG so that helped them in their strategy to bypass Okafor. Given their epic history of having Centers, I think they made a mistake. Kupchak should be fired for losing the gamble.

04 Jul 2015 19:35:21
I love the way so many "sixer-bashers" where SuRE that the Laker pick will be in the "late teens" next year just a week ago. Now its"don't count on that pick, lakers may be one of the 3 worst teams". Anyway, Its okafor, another year of a developed Noel, possibly Embiid, and some real vets off the bench, not D-leaguers like last year. That's where the 30-win prediction comes from, not simply the addition of okafor. Laker fans are like my wife, only hear the parts they want to. unbelievable.

The Lakers had a disastrous offseason and haven't agreed to terms with a free agent yet. I did not see that coming, and frankly anybody who says they did is a liar. You can say Jordan and Aldridge never had a chance signing with them, and that's ok, but our next best choice is K Koufos or J Hill again. Never saw that coming. That's ahy I'm saying they might get another top 3 pick next year. Kobe best case scenario will play 45 games next year. Russell & Randle are still rookies essentially, I'm really excited to have them, but they're still rookies, look what Wiggins did last year and they still finished with the worst record.

I didn't say 30 wins was impossible. I feel it's a little optimistic is all. Which bets do you have? Thompson & Landry?

04 Jul 2015 20:36:45
I think Sixers shouldn't. Signs. Free agents unless we get a great one year deal. There's no one left that I'm really interested in so why waste the money Nelsons too short to play any longer in this league. The joshep kid is interesting but idk if I need to give him a. Long term deal.

How bout that Reggie Jackson on Detroit. He's still a free agent with upside. Maybe him for guard.

04 Jul 2015 20:37:06
It's going to be a tough year for both the 76ers and Lakers. The 76ers don't want to improve this year and the Lakers can't get anyone to sign with them. Next year both teams will have great picks and cap.

04 Jul 2015 21:36:10
Hold on, there.

1Nba_fan: Sixers don't want to improve? The already have. Dramatically. See above. Okafor, Stauskus, Thompson, Wroten hopefully back to 6th man. Last year the bench consisted of you, me, TreGib, and guys named Hollis and Ish.

NewLakerDynasty: I take great exception to being called a liar. I've posted many times that I didn't think the Lakers would get a big time FA. Many times. Why? Who wants to play with an aging Kobe? If LA is a great city, then the Clippers are a better choice because they're closer to winning and have CP and the big athletic freak.

Plus, CA hsa a huge state income tax. What- 13%? On an $80m total contract, that's a $10m loss compared to Texas teams.

Kupchak overplayed his hand. Lakers build on BIGS. Always have going back to Wilt. They made a mistake by not taking Okafor. Kupchak should be fired.

04 Jul 2015 23:15:52
The person who said that the lakers pick will be in the teens is not me or laker dynasty. The lakers have 7 2year or 1st year players. The Other four is Kobe who has injury problems sacre who's just straight up bad and Kelly who only shoots threes and young who also is hurt. The Timberwolves will improve and so will the Knicks and magic and teams like that

04 Jul 2015 23:16:55
Philly rich you always loved Russell and now you say it's a mistake. The only good center we drafted was Bynum. All the others we traded for or signed. Your the one who didn't like okafor before the draft.

05 Jul 2015 10:27:14
Last wet dream for the Lakers, Kings would agree to a trade in january

Kings:
-Randle
-Russell

Lakers:
-Cousins
-Rondo

05 Jul 2015 10:28:18
But I think Lakers should start new. Keeping Randle and Russell, I think two pretty good Players in the future. And build around them. Maybe Lakers will loose another two years. But they can add some other pieces and become a future good team with Russell and Randle.

05 Jul 2015 14:35:37
King:

1. I do like Russell and have for a long time. But that was before the draft and much has happened since.

2. The Lakers are not longer a free agent destination. They had the glitz and star power but now longer. They should have drafted Okafor (that doesn't mean I don't like Russell). I think they drafted Russell thinking they'd sign one of the stud FA BIGS. They did not. They over-estimated what the idea of being a Laker is. That era is over. Sorry.

3. I'd still like to have Russell and would consider moving picks for him. But if the Lakers come knocking at the Sixers door and demand Noel and a bunch of 1st rounders AFTER they so completely failed in free agency, I'd laugh in their face. When they had the 2nd pick, they were in a position of power regarding draftng Russell. But now they have no power since their strategy failed. Now the power is with the team with the young big guys.

05 Jul 2015 15:45:14
We would not trade Russell unless the person is a star or someone who has star potential which is a reason we drafted Russell to. We got Hibbert to now. But in saying you didn't like okafor before the draft I remember you saying he's to slow and is not good on defense and think he'll be average at best

05 Jul 2015 17:19:42
King, you can't be talking about me. My position on the draft was that I wanted Russell but if Okafor fell to the Sixers they would either try to work a 3 man rotation at 32 minutes for each of Embiid, Noel and Okafor or open up the bidding for the pick and maybe trade down to 7 with Denver and try to get the Knicks pick for next year.

Now that Embiid is a question mark, I have Okafor on the strong side and Noel on the weak side. My only major complaint that I can recall making about Okafor is his foul shooting.

Furthermore, the draft is over and trades and free agent signings have taken place. I like what the Sixers have done since drafting Okafor. And I think they can probably find a Russell type player with all the draft picks they've built up.

You remembered wrong. My only objection to Okafor was that I wanted Russell (especially when I thought Embiid was healthy) and that Okafor has a problem shooting fouls.

05 Jul 2015 18:31:18
You won't find a point guard in the draft in the top 5 next year nor will anyone sign with you. A three man rotation would cause problems with one sitting the bench where he could be playing somewhere else. You won't find another passer like Russell for sure in the next 2 drafts maybe even 5.

05 Jul 2015 18:32:31
I'm sorry I don't take pictures of whatever people say on the site like you do so you can bring back a month later. But I recall you not liking okafor

05 Jul 2015 19:53:01
Well, if your knowledge of the next 5 drafts- which means you understand what the current crop of rising high school freshmen looks like- is as strong as you suggest and there are no guards like Russell, then I guess I'll just defer to your epic and substantial insight of last year's middle schoolers.

As for a 3 man rotation, I've covered this before. There are 96 minutes in a game for the big guys. That's 32 minutes per game for each. Noel didn't even average that last year. I think less than 10 big guys in the league averaged more than 32 minutes per game. So there should be no worries there. If someone's not happy, they can get traded. BFD

And I'll have to defer to my own knowledge regarding my opinion of Okafor. His foul shooting is a concern. But he matches up well with Noel's skill set, at least from my perspective. But I had hoped for Russell, no doubt. That ship has sailed.
