the funny part of where you put an unproven rookie and below average Shved before Nate Robinson.

Galloway/Robinson.

What do you mean by "stretch?" Is that even allowed? Not sure the player's association will go for that.

13 Jul 2015 19:41:11
Its a provision in the CBA. Prob should read up on it :)

He'd have to be bought out first though correct?

13 Jul 2015 20:50:48
You can only stretch certain contracts tho, correct?

13 Jul 2015 22:18:10
In order to stretch a contract it must be in its last yr.

So as per Pizza's suggestion, I looked it up. I think the player has to be waived first.

I'm not totally clear on this. It seems like the impact is toward how the player receives $ but not necessarily the cap.

Could use some help here.

No deron Williams had two years left and he got stretched

King, I'm pretty sure the player has to be released:

"By releasing him, the Nets will be allowed to pay Williams his remaining salary over the next five seasons.

If Williams is waived by Aug. 31, his remaining salary will be paid over twice the number of years remaining on his contract, plus one additional year, according to the NBA's stretch provision."

According to the Nets cap numbers, the payouts also spread out across 5 years of salary cap. Pretty cool. Nice intro of the concept by Knickstilliidie

He was stretched tho. The meaning of stretch is that they spread out the buy out price they got him for which was 27 mill and pay 5 mill per year. Which means stretch. Yes he cleared waivers but was stretched

I'm not disagreeing with you.

I'm just completing the thought that the stretch can occur only when a player is released, the actually cash payment can be spread out for twice the remaining contract length plus 1 year, and the remaining cap number also gets stretched out for twice the remaining contract length plus 1.

Its a pretty cool provision in the CBA.

The player must be waived/released. The remaining salary is then paid over the remaining years, times 2, plus 1. The salary cap hit is stretched similarly. So for Calderon, let's say the knicks wanted to get rid of the remaining 15mil/2 years or so he has. They can release him, then stretch it out over 5 years. So the cap hit would be 3 mil per year for 5 years versus 7.5 the next two years. Especially helpful with the huge bump in cap coming.

Make sense?
