I do that if I'm the Sixers since I want a real PG for this team. Bayless has 1 year left on a responsible contract.

Hinkie doesn't do that. Don't know why. But he doesn't.

Hinkie doesn't give up a second rounder for bayless because he's going to sign Huertas to play pg this year. He knows nobody on the current roster even has the potential to be a good starting pg, now or ever. So Huertas gets the ball to the bigs in the right spot, shoots very well, and mentors Jamaal Murray or Kris Dunn next year. Btw, Embiid gets Durant type surgery in 3 days. Here's hoping he stops growing at 7'2" and recovers .

No thanks from Sixers. I don't want terrible vets just to have them. Look we're going to loss a lot of game r regardless at this point. Let's make sure we make progress with our young players. Coaches are the ones who should be teaching our young guys. Not some 30 something waste of playing time and unhappy to be playing on a losing team vet. It has to be the right vet for me to play him. Maybe a former superstar that still has a little game left. Someone the guys look up to.

TreGib. I understand your point, but are young talent level is all in the front court. These guys will develop MUCH quicker with less frustration if someone is getting them the ball when and where they need it to be successful. Not saying bayless is the guy, but you are doing Okafor, Noel, and Holmes a huge disservice with the current pg situation. It's hard to become a better hitter if the batting practice pitching coach is throwing all balls. Get these young studs a pg. Please.

As I mentioned above, I think Huertas is a perfect fit. He has smoked everyone, including the US, in international play. He wants to prove he can play in the nba, and he's a excellent passer and shooter. Runs the game well, and finds the open man in the right spots. Plus, he says he wants to mentor a young pg in the nba. This guy will have a chance to start in Philly, cost us nothing, and has a chip on his shoulder. All we need is 2 years from him. I understand he just turned 32, but he's the kind of winning influence this team needs. A win/win.

Playing point guard with bigs is not that hard. That's why there are sooooo many point guard in this league that all seem decent. It's the easiest postion to play average. Its hard to become great. These vets were talking about are so pedestrian and boring I see no point in taking development minutes away from younger guys.

For example. Okafor. He post up about 10 to 12 feet from the basket. easy pass to make front eh top of the three point arch. Similarly on drives to the basket. Noel has very little offensive game but he can cut to the basket. so drive to the basket. Take his defender and pass Noel the ball. It's not that hard for guys who have been playing the game for their whole lives.

Let's not over complicate this job. Big men like okafor are the easiest to play with. Just got to get them the ball when Ask for it. For example. Ish smith played with Noel extremely well. But is a he even an average point guard in this league. NO! Again. It's easy to play with bigs.

TreVino.I think you are seriously undervaluing the role of a pg. How many good teams have one of those" average pgs). GS, Cleveland, LAC, SA, Chi, Wash,Tor, Por(last year), they all have excellent players at the pg position. Its not a coincidence they all were top teams. The only one that I can think of that had an " average " pg and was a very good team was Houston( and Harden was practically a one man show). I think a very good player at the point is important. I don't think playing with good big guys is a detriment to a pgs success, but it's not the only reason. C'mon. We need a pg.

Huertas averages 8 points. 4 assists. 5 steals and shoots 40% from the field. Hardly lights out. And on top of that, he's been a pro since 2001. Aka, 32 is like 34/35 for him. Hardly an answer.

15 Aug 2015 21:35:59
They don't play nearly as many games as NBA players do. All he needs to be is a 1-2 year pro, a stop-gap. That's all.

15 Aug 2015 21:45:20
Doesn't make sense. How do you think a 32 year old declining point guard who never played in the nba is a better stop gap than say a season vet? Additionally, you pump him up like he's a beast, not merely a stop gap. There is no plan. And this is not a good move.

Jvoug.

I'm not under valuing the point guard. I'm undervaluing average to below average point guards. In particularly older vets that some fans think we should sign just because. I'm saying the average point guards in this league are a dime a dozen. The great ones are rare but as you mentioned important. But the averAge ones are EVERYWHERE. And more importantly we don't need another old AVERAGE point guard AS we already have a young average point guard in wroten already. Again Average point guards seem to be on every team! Now if you have a superstar point guard you think we should get that fine. I'd be happy to take trade ideas for those.
