Am I only one of few who liked what Jackson did I the summer for the Knicks
Yes a lot hinges on melo staying healthy and Porzingis living to the protential he has and most believe can live to.
This is what I believe the Knicks will start the season with
Pg Calderon, Grant, Galloway
Sg Afflalo, Vujacic, Antetokounmpo
Sf Anthony, Early, Thomas
Pf O'Quinn, Porzingis, Williams
C Lopez, Seraphin, Amundson
But if Porzingis shows that potential I believe he will start come halfway in the season also I believe the Knicks need to upgrade the starting point guard position which I believe we all agree on but first I would give Calderon a chance but also give Grant and Galloway the chances to see if can make their own. But if don't work I would ale this trade
Knicks trade Calderon, Early and couple draft picks to Pistons for Jennings
New roster
Pg Jennings, Grant
Sg Afflalo, Galloway, Vujacic
Sf Anthony, Thomas, Antetokounmpo
Pf Porzingis, O'Quinn, Williams

Love the enthusiasm.
But I think the Knicks are an absolute grease fire. For example, they really have no picks to trade. They don't have any picks this coming year and they've traded all their 2nd rounders until 2022. They have a 2nd rounder in 2017 from Houston, none in 2018 and two in 2019 from Houston and Cleveland.
If I were a Knicks fan, I'd try to trade Melo for expiring contracts, young talent, and/or 1st rounders. I'd then go through a year, 1 year, of taking on bad contracts for draft picks. I'd turn the team over to Zinger, Grant, and whoever else is up and coming.

The Knicks better off trading Melo for young players and draft picks. Draft well and develop the players because free agency isn't guaranteed.

Knicks are a grease fire? Listen. the improvement between the team currently and last year is major. The point was to get the ball moving in a positive direction, let the young players start to mesh and develop, and then KEEP attracting good players to NY. There wasnt a real chance of getting Jordan, Love, Aldridge. everyone knew it. However, if the team performs to the level the can, which is a fringe playoff team, they will start to get some real attention from top players, such as durant. The knicks will not be moving melo. They are very excited about the way the team is progresisng. The rumors about melo are that if the team ends up in the bottom like last year, hell be mad. But heres the thing, after melo went down, seriously. who did they have? They have a significantly improved roster and the rumors will always be there. the knicks fans in general are excited with the developments in the team.

@Pizza if Melo goes down only A Afflalo can get you maybe 16 points. The Knicks will struggle. Either trade Melo of hope to sign D Howard, D Derozan, A Horford, or B Beal. Knicks shouldn't even look Durant's way in free agency

If he goes down for the year? I believe he's had 2 seasons under 60 games. 1 being last year and a more strategic move. I think the Knicks will take their chances lol. Should the thunder trade durant in fear he may go down? At least he's missed a large portion for an injury that's hard to recover from. Besides, Knicks will getting meetings with multiple top tiers. Hopefully not Howard though. He's set for a rapid health decline as is evident in recent years. This is a desperation move. I'm not sure why anyone thinks the Knicks are desperate. And ignore he Knicks, Phil Jackson does NOT make panic moves. They are juuuuust fine

Pizza, what I mean is that the team can hope to maybe get to an 8th seed at best. And that's with an aging star that doesn't pass. I've been there, done that. That's the Sixers with Iverson. The Knicks won't be able to draft themselves out of that spot and (I believe) they won't be able to get the stud FA to go with Carmello. So they're stuck near the bottom of the lottery at best and higher in the lottery at worst. Essentially they're fighting to be mediocre with no chance of better. In the NBA, that's a real problem. You either have to truly suck and draft yourself forward or sign yourself into a Big 3. The Knicks can't do either.
The Sixers are trying the opposite. They're trying to draft themselves forward. It looks ugly but that's their plan. They have no desire to be stuck in mediocre land. I know, its ugly looking. But that's the plan.
Miami is going the other route. They've sold the future for the studs now since they have Wade and Bosh already on board.

Listen man, I know what you are saying and I understand you try and keep hope on the sixers plan, but none of this really relates to the knicks. I flat out disagree with people thinking FAs don't want to play in NY. Some do, some dont, the problem is NY and LA have "auras" but that only pushes a player so far to join. Having a solid team that is simply missing a piece or two. that's what can attract big names. So agree to disagree. I believe in New York, Melo and PJ luring some top notch talent.

I'm not HOPING on the Sixers strategy. It makes sense. Its painful, but it makes sense. The Sixers don't have to compete with other teams for players. They're drafting them. The player has no choice. Plus the contracts are much less than the FA market.
While I wish they had gotten a real PG this summer, they've had a good offseason- acquiring two young starters in OK4 and Stauskas, adding the Kings 1st rounder plus the right to swap their picks for 2 years.

Philly, the problem your team has is that by the time players develop. they will go elsewhere.
Lets say embiid takes this year off, and it takes 2 years for him to become great and healthy. he's a FA and leaves. Noel. same. Drafting is GREAT for the core, but the problem is top picks are hit or miss, and by the time you draft a great team, they start leaving. If the sixers don't start actually going after FAs to play WITH the picks, there is no point. The odds of hitting rich like the Spurs did with their draft are 1 in a hundred, at best.
It just makes the situation a constant wait and see. I wish the sixers were decent, I occasionally check their games out. Its just awful to watch

Disagree Pizza. With all the 1st rounders and allowing them to get playing time and develop, the Sixers possibly already have their own Big 3 via the draft. It might turn out that already have them now in: Noel, OK4, Saric. Maybe Embiid, maybe not Embiid.
Maybe their own pick and Laker pick turn out to be studs. Maybe Stauskas settles down and turns into Kyle Korver. Who knows. But if 3 of those 7 can really play, they can fill in with the other 1st rounders that are not studs and/or mid level FA.
They'll know who can play and who cannot play by the time those contracts come up with the exception possibly of Embiid. That's going to be a tough call.

Philly, again, I HOPE that the sixers do have some success. The problem again is that to think out of 7, 3 will turn into top level talent is a drastic stretch.
Embiid realistically will not be healthy. Noel will not have much offense. Saric, no ones seen him play in the NBA. Lots of european talent does not translate in the NBA. Staukas, if he turns out to be a solid role player, that would be about the extent of his game.
Right now, the best hope is okafor, and potentially future picks. Its just not a great situation and not an attractive situation. i'm tired of the waiting and seeing with the sixers. Its been a few years and there is no reason to believe there has been any real improvement except continuous "potential" in future picks. Its frustrating!

Thinking that 3 out of 7 top, top picks turning into players is a stretch? Ok then.
And its been two bad years. Hinkie inherited a franchise without real talent and without any future picks. Collins rolled the dice for the entire franchise on Bynum.
Year 1 of ugly was the year they took Noel. Year 2 was last year. Today, this team is much better situated than it was before Jrue Holiday was traded.
