Barring an 11th hour change of heart, the Nets were set last night to say farewell to center/forward Nenad Krstic, who had a 2 year deal worth $10 million in place with a Russian team. The Nets, with the salary cap in mind, had until midnight to attempt to pull off a sign and trade, a scenario that seemed unlikely with Krstic, a restricted free agent.

The Nets made a $2.7 million qualifying offer to restricted free agent Nenad Krstic last week and are mentioned to be interested in trading the 7 foot forward if they do sign him. Krstic is supposedly looking for a two- or 3 year deal.

The New Jersey Nets extended a qualifying offer to restricted free agent center Nenad Krstic Friday, allowing them to match any contract proposal from another team. Krstic had major knee surgery during the 2006-07 season.

The Nets have mentioned they would like to keep their 3 prime free agents, Bostjan Nachbar and DeSagana Diop (both unrestricted) and the restricted Nenad Krstic. Nachbar mentioned the Nets are his 1st choice.

Change will be forthcoming for the Nets, however Rod Thorn stressed it does not mean a complete, total overhaul. He mentioned he could be "comfortable" if the 4 main offensive pieces, Vince Carter, Richard Jefferson, Devin Harris and Nenad Krstic, returned en masse.

On their West Coast trip, the Nets discussed the option of shutting down Nenad Krstic, still recuperating from a torn ACL. Yesterday it went from a distinct possibility to a disappointing reality, when Lawrence Frank mentioned it will probably be 2 weeks or more before his starting center sees the floor in an NBA game.

One source mentioned the Nets will wait for Indiana to call about Jermaine O'Neal. They do not want to give up Richard Jefferson, Nenad Krstic and Marcus Williams for O'Neal, as the Pacers asked for in their last conversation.

On June 28, the night of the NBA draft, Nets president Rod Thorn mentioned he has received several "interesting" trade offers, one of which, as stated by sources, was a blockbuster that could have sent Richard Jefferson, Nenad Krstic and Jason Collins to the Pacers for Jermaine O'Neal.

The Nets thought they would get Indiana interested in parting with Jermaine O'Neal, the perennial All Star power forward. The Nets, who were shopping Richard Jefferson throughout the league the last few weeks in hopes of landing a quality big man and also put Nenad Krstic and Jason Collins on the table, initiated the talks.
