Brandon Roy, the cornerstone of the Trail Blazers' franchise, will undergo arthroscopic surgery today to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee, the team said late Wednesday night. The Blazers' training camp, to start the 1st week in October, is 7 weeks away. Their 1st exhibition game is October 7th, and the regular season opener is October 28th.

The Portland Trail Blazers signed French guard forward Nicolas Batum Wednesday. The 6 foot 8 19 year old was the 25th overall pick in the draft by Houston, which traded his rights to Portland for picks Darrell Arthur (27th overall) and Joey Dorsey (33rd overall). Batum played the past 3 seasons for MSB Le Mans of the French ProA League.

The Portland Trail Blazers have reached an agreement to sign Spanish guard Rudy Fernandez. Fernandez previously said his intention to join the NBA, however the Trail Blazers would not announce his agreement to sign until Tuesday due to league rules.

The Pacers traded 1st round draft pick Jerryd Bayless to the Portland Trail Blazers for No.13 pick Brandon Rush, Jarrett Jack and Josh McRoberts. Rush's agent, Mark Bartelstein, informed The Associated Press about the deal Thursday night, shortly after Portland picked Rush. Bayless was selected 11th overall.

The Hornets have agreed to send their 1st round draft pick, the 27th overall, to the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for cash that would help New Orleans add a key free agent to a rising young squad.

Though the Trail Blazers are out of the playoffs, that does not mean they are going quietly. With the crowd at the Rose Garden chanting "Beat L.A!" Portland held off the LA Lakers 112-103 Tuesday.

The Lakers received their most upbeat medical report in weeks after practice Tuesday, Pau Gasol expects to play tonight when the Lakers play host to the Trail Blazers, after missing 9 games due to a sprained left ankle.
