The NBA has suspended Steve Nash and Matt Barnes of Phoenix and Rafer Alston of Houston for their roles in a fight. Alston and Barnes were suspended for 2 games without pay and Nash for one. The league also fined Shaquille O'Neal $35,000 and Tracy McGrady $25,000 on Friday for their actions during the Rockets' 94-82 win in Phoenix on Wednesday.

The Houston Rockets bought 4 tractor-trailers full of food, water and toiletries for victims of Hurricane Ike and players unloaded them at a distribution center Thursday. The 4 trucks carried 80,000 pounds of supplies, mentioned team spokeswoman Tracey Hughes. Forwards Mike Harris and Chuck Hayes and guards Rafer Alston, Aaron Brooks and Luther Head carried boxes of food and orange juice.

Houston Rockets point guard Rafer Alston will miss at least a week with a strained right hamstring. The 6 foot 2 Alston suffered the injury in the Rockets' 111-94 loss to Denver Sunday.

No sense in waiting around for Tracy McGrady to return. The Houston Rockets are winning without him these days. Luther Head's season high 24 points and Rafer Alston's double-double Tuesday night led Houston past the Wizards 92-84, the Rockets' 3rd consecutive win.

Houston Rockets guard Rafer Alston was charged Tuesday with slashing a man's neck during a ruckus at a Manhattan nightspot, his 2nd brush with the law this month. Alston was arraigned on felony assault charges before being released without bail. A judge ordered him to return to court January 3rd.

Rockets guard Rafer Alston mentioned Monday he was innocent of misdemeanor assault and public intoxication charges filed against him a day earlier. Alston was accused of grabbing a parking attendant's arm, shaking him and spitting on him after Alston's vehicle was towed from a lot early Sunday.

The Heat is focusing on trades to find a point guard, and talks continue with Houston concerning Rafer Alston. Though Miami would move Michael Doleac, the Rockets are exploring what other teams would offer. Talks with Sacramento about Mike Bibby have not materialized, the Kings are not eager to take back ex King Jason Williams.

Mike James, who averaged 10.1 points and 3.6 assists last season, made it known that he is ready to compete with Rafer Alston for the Rockets' starting position at point guard.
