Kings forward Shareef Abdur-Rahim retired Monday due to a persistent right knee injury. The 31 year old Abdur-Rahim played 12 NBA seasons for 4 teams, starting his career in 1996 when the Vancouver Grizzlies made him the 3rd overall draft pick.

Kings forward Shareef Abdur-Rahim will take at least 3 weeks off to rest his surgically repaired right knee. The Kings also mentioned Friday that 1st round draft pick Spencer Hawes will travel to Seattle Tuesday to get a 2nd opinion on his sore left knee from his personal physician.

Kings forward Shareef Abdur-Rahim underwent cleanup surgery Tuesday on his right knee. Abdur-Rahim, an 11 year NBA veteran, had loose particles removed from his knee, the team mentioned in a statement. He will require several weeks of recovery, however expects to be ready for training camp in October.
