Eddy Curry met briefly with his agent, Leon Rose, before Tuesday's game. Curry was sidelined since the 2nd game of the season with a bruised right knee. He is expected to be out another 2 weeks. Mike D'Antoni had removed Curry from the rotation before the Knick season opener. There is interest in the center from the Spurs and Heat. Miami may be willing to trade D'Antoni favorite Shawn Marion, but a possible deal with Curry is complicated because their salaries do not match.

forward Shawn Marion said Friday he has not allowed failed negotiations with the team on a contract extension to affect his preparation for his tenth NBA season. Dan Fegan, Marion's agent, had been negotiating with Heat president Pat Riley on and off concerning a probable extension since Marion decided in June not to opt out of the final season of his contract to become an unrestricted free agent.

Miami was exploring a lot of possibilities, including, recent talks with the Chicago Bulls on several trade scenarios that included Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks for unsigned restricted free agent Ben Gordon, Larry Hughes and possibly Joakim Noah.

In 2 seasons with the run and gun Nuggets, swingman Yakhouba Diawara struggled to find his position behind Allen Iverson and Carmelo Anthony. Now in Miami, Diawara expects for a better opportunity to complement Dwyane Wade and Shawn Marion.

One rival exec mentioned the available centers are so bad that the Heat is better off with an undersized front line of Udonis Haslem, Shawn Marion and Michael Beasley, supplemented by Alonzo Mourning (by January) and small doses of Mark Blount. ''Is it conventional? No,'' coach Erik Spoelstra said.

Miami is thought to have interest in Ron Artest and be willing to part with Shawn Marion, whose $17.1 million deal also is expiring. As will be the case with most suitors, the question will be whether the Kings can include forward Kenny Thomas and his deal that includes 2 more seasons and approximately $18 million.

A source familiar with the situation mentioned Wednesday night that the Heat already got overtures from the Raptors, Pacers, Clippers and several other teams concerning Shawn Marion, who is seeking the type of lucrative extension Heat President Pat Riley appears reluctant to consider.

One exec who spoke to the Heat mentioned Miami would think about dealing Shawn Marion for a top player and also could be content allowing his contract to expire next summer and in 2009, sign Carlos Boozer, who would love to play here, or Elton Brand, if he does not opt out now.
