Free agent point guard William "Smush" Parker signed Friday with the Heat, his 7th team since turning pro in 2002. The deal came after the Heat failed to land several other point guards they pursued, that included Mo Williams, Steve Francis and Steve Blake.

The Nuggets signed free agent guard Chucky Atkins Monday, 3 days after point guard Steve Blake returned to Portland. Atkins averaged 13.2 points and 4.6 assists last year with the Memphis Grizzlies, 2nd best in his 8 year career.

Former Trail Blazer Steve Blake is coming back to Portland, even though in one sense he never left. The free agent point guard who played for the Nuggets last season signed a reported 2 year deal with an option. The Blazers, who said his return late Friday, did not disclose terms. Blake, a 4 year veteran, averaged 8.3 points and 6.6 assists in 49 games with Denver last season.

According to a league source, Steve Blake, who is supposedly seeking a full mid level exception, expects to be $6 million, is not out of the Nuggets' reach. Blake is being courted by several teams.

If the Lakers do not acquire a ball-handling guard in a trade, they would probably attempt to sign 1 with their midlevel exception of 5 years and about $30 million. Possibilities include Denver's Steve Blake, Milwaukee's Mo Williams and Earl Boykins, and the Clippers' Jason Hart.
