The NBA has suspended Steve Nash and Matt Barnes of Phoenix and Rafer Alston of Houston for their roles in a fight. Alston and Barnes were suspended for 2 games without pay and Nash for one. The league also fined Shaquille O'Neal $35,000 and Tracy McGrady $25,000 on Friday for their actions during the Rockets' 94-82 win in Phoenix on Wednesday.

Raja Bell was hitting from the outside. Shaquille O'Neal and Amare Stoudemire dominated inside. Steve Nash was Steve Nash, setting up others and scoring when needed. It was almost a perfect game for Phoenix, and the New Jersey Nets never had chance once the Suns stopped turning the ball over in the 2nd half.

Seen and heard on TNT, during a studio analysts' debate about NBA point guards, Charles Barkley, "I love Steve Nash, however this is Chris Paul's and Deron Williams' league right now. I always said that Chris Paul is driving and Deron Williams is in the back seat". Reggie Miller, "Where's Steve Nash?" Barkley, "He's in the trunk".

Free agent point guard Tyronn Lue and the Bucks are nearing agreement on a one year contract, Milwaukee GM John Hammond said Wednesday night. Lue had received strong interest from the Suns, who were seeking a backup for all star point guard Steve Nash.

Phoenix will target a backup point guard, a shooter and a big man in free agency. The Suns are determined to lighten 34 year old point guard Steve Nash's load. The point-guard target list includes 31 year old Tyronn Lue.

Steve Nash, the 2005 and 2006 NBA Most Valuable Player, accompanied the Major League Soccer commissioner this week on a trip to Montreal to talk about future MLS possibilities there. Nash, of the Suns, is a native Canadian who comes from a soccer-entrenched family.

Mike D'Antoni has informed confidants he thinks Rose can be the next Steve Nash. And he informed The Post that Rose is "Jason Kidd with a shot". D'Antoni is content to go with Stephon Marbury as his starting point guard for one season, however that changes if Rose becomes a Knick. The Knicks are reluctant to trade Marbury to ruin their future cap situation, however a buyout is possible.

Mike D'Antoni has not always favored small lineups, high-volume shooting and breakneck basketball. He did not coach that system during his one season with Denver (in 1999) and did not adopt it in Phoenix until he got the ideal point guard to run it, Steve Nash.
