With Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker sidelined, Tim Duncan figured to get the last shot in a tie game. Wrong. Roger Mason got the call, and the 29 year old journeyman came through. Mason made a 3 pointer with 8.4 seconds remaining Monday night, lifting the San Antonio Spurs to an 86-83 win over the L.A Clippers for their 3rd straight win.

With injuries zapping any offense San Antonio is accustomed to generating, the Spurs have fallen back on what they do best. Play defense. Tim Duncan scored 22 points, but his defense helped the Spurs avoid another loss in their injury plagued early season. Duncan blocked Aaron Brooks' layup with a second left in the Spurs' 77-75 win over the Houston Rockets on Friday night.

Andrew Bogut met earlier Wednesday with Bucks coach Scott Skiles. The message, just be aggressive. He certainly was against Tim Duncan, who nearly carried the Spurs to a win by himself.

Even without Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili, the San Antonio Spurs were too much for the New York Knicks. Tim Duncan had 23 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists to lead San Antonio to a 92-80 win over the New York Knicks on Tuesday night in the Spurs' 1st game without Parker. He will miss about a month due to a moderate left ankle sprain.

Tim Duncan had 16 points and 13 rebounds in 26 minutes and the San Antonio Spurs beat Cleveland 91-70 Thursday, dropping the Cavaliers to 0-4 in exhibition play. Matt Bonner added 15 points, going 3 for 3 from 3 point range and 6 for 7 overall from the field, for the Spurs (2-2).

Wizards player Gilbert Arenas listed his best 5 players in the NBA to the Manila Bulletin on a visit to the Philippines recently. "Chauncey Billups (Pistons) at point guard, Kevin Garnett (Boston Celtics) at small forward, Tim Duncan (San Antonio Spurs) and Dwight Howard (Orlando Magic) at center".

Whilst Kobe Bryant and the LA Lakers used an explosive offense to reached the NBA finals, their defensive adjustments were critical as well. Now, after getting past the likes of Utah's Carlos Boozer and San Antonio's Tim Duncan in the Western Conference playoffs, they face perhaps their most daunting challenge in Boston's Kevin Garnett, a versatile 7 footer who can do damage from the inside as well as the perimeter.

Coach Gregg Popovich signed a contract extension with the San Antonio Spurs. Popovich said the extension with the defending NBA champions, which runs through the 2011-12 season, before the Spurs' Game 4 loss to the LA Lakers Tuesday. Popovich has led the Spurs and player Tim Duncan to 4 NBA titles, in 1999, 2003, 2005 and 2007.

Just as Tim Duncan and the San Antonio Spurs appeared to be hitting their stride and gaining momentum for a berth in the Western Conference finals, they are down again, their march toward consecutive NBA titles very much in doubt.

League MVP Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett were selected to the NBA All-Defensive Team Monday, along with Marcus Camby, Bruce Bowen and Tim Duncan. Garnett, who helped the Boston Celtics to the league's best record, was chosen for the 9th time.
