Although he stated that the club is unlikely to make a deal, Magic GM Otis Smith continues to look at trade possibilities, that included acquiring another big man. The Magic have not quite filled the void created after losing incumbent power forward Tony Battie to shoulder surgery before training camp. Battie mentioned he would like to attempt to come back for the playoffs.

Orlando Magic forward Tony Battie will undergo rotator cuff surgery likely to end his season, the team mentioned Wednesday. He partially tore a ligament several weeks ago in a pickup game.
