BMiller, Shiller what are your thoughts about this?

POR get Dieng & Covington

MIN get Whiteside (exp), Little & 1st round pick

Dieng plays great when starting. Covington will be a great help specially on the defensive end. This helps salvage the season for Portland while having pieces for next season. Meanwhile, Wolves get a young player and pick then saves money

I don’t think this is unfair for the Wolves, but I would hope they’d pass.

While MIN isn’t heading to the playoffs, Covington is a critical piece for them this season. Gersson Rosas needs this season to be about “establishing an offensive and defensive identity, and creating a process to develop youth. ” Unfortunately, he did not inherit the personnel to run this system . except Covington.

I fear that if they trade RoCo, teams will continue to pack the paint defensively, to stop MIN’s system. Defensively, their future is Towns becoming a better defender, by stop chasing after players and just stay in system. If their is any hope for that, pairing him with Covington is the best way. He respects RoCo and “makes him feel is weak side is protected, ” he makes great decisions and is an elite team defender.

I think we tend to lump teams into two categories - those going for a playoff run, and those tankers that are trading vets for youth. This season for MIN, they have a more complex goal, described by Rosas, and one that needs Covington.

I’ve seen that float around and mentioned it here. It feels me a good move for both. I might even include more from Portland (Trent maybe? He’s been good the last few weeks) .

I get Minny fans like Covington, I’m just not sure he fits the timeline at this point. Minny needs to play the long game. They’re not going to compete this year or next. They need another top 5 pick to be a second star.

For Portland, it’s the exact move they’ve been talking about. Move Whiteside for players on contract next year. Don’t sacrifice assets for a short term move. Covington would be their best wing since Wes Matthews. And he’d fit their system perfectly.

Seems ok but wolves may want simons instead.

Trading Covington hurts the development this season of KAT, and basically all their players as they try to learn the new offensive and defensive system.

Maybe they trade RoCo this summer, but I think holding onto him is the long play.
