Hawks complete a big 3 as Collins is better suited as 3rd option

Speaking purely from a fit perspective, Capela would help the Raptors with physicality, rebounding, rim protection, and he's shown that he can switch when needed. He would probably fit well enough in Nurse's system. He finished 3rd among centers in all-defensive voting in '21.

Where it gets dicey: no 3 whatsoever, FT% is abysmal, and if the Hawks/ Sixers series is any indication, he would have little to no effect on Embiid, although he did have some nice stops here and there. Embiid averaged just over 30 pts, just under 13 rebounds, and 4 assists over the 7 games in that series. So while he might be an improvement over what they have now against the big bodies, he's probably not altering many outcomes with his presence alone.

Generally speaking, I think Capela would be a nice add for the Raptors despite his poor shooting, but not at the expense of OG. Unless something else is coming the Raptor's way, I don't see them giving up a younger, potential all-defensive candidate on a slightly better contract who can guard 1 thru 5, who also happens to be one of the few good shooters on the team for a guy like Capela alone.

Maybe, but when a players averages at least 20 shots plus 12 FT’s (half the fouls when someone else guarding him) it’s not very hard to reach 25-30 PPG. Career head to head Capela averages more rebounds against Embiid, which would help the Raps tremendously imo especially when having to play Achuiwa or Birch.

I’m not someone that values OG very highly like Raps fans do. He does offer really good 2 way playing but I don’t think he’ll ever be an all star level player. I think he’ll have the same value around players that are good 2 way players like FVV Brogdon Lonzo Mik. Bridges.

As hawks fan I would do it depending on what Lavine contract is. He is not a max player to me. He is a 25-28 million dollar player. I don't think he has playoff tenacity. He is only a regular season guy.

OG = Mikal Bridges?

In terms of value I think so, yes.

Bridges may be the slightly better defender while OG is the slightly better offensive player

OG: 17/ 5/ 3 on 14 shots a game
Bridges: 14/ 4/ 2 on 10 shots a game

Both on 36% from 3

I believe Bridges could be just as good as an offensive player if it wasn’t dominated by both CP3/ Booker and in a more ball movement system like the Raps.

Point is they’re very equal players who are terrific 4th options on a championship team while being the primary wing defender.

I a trying to find a non-raptor comparison for Raptor's fan to access OG's value. Whatever raptor's fans would give for Mikal Bridges is what they should be asking for in OG trades.

I agree about OG's value, and I'm a Raptors fan. I don't see him reaching all-star level. Really good 3 and D guy on a contender? Sure. But his efficiency and games played have gone down with more responsibility the last couple of seasons. I just don't think he's wired to be the first or second option like a lot of fans think he is. When he plays well offensively, his defense seems to suffer. When he's a beast on defense, he often disappears at the other end. The effort is always there, there's just not always a lot of balance unfortunately.

Value-wise I don't think this is far off. I just don't think it makes sense for the Raptors to give up one of their only good shooters for a guy who can't shoot at all. Unless something is added to the deal to help ease that blow, OR they can swing a deal elsewhere/ sign someone to fill OG's shooting void. Capela's strengths alone won't offset the sting of going from a bad shooting team to an even worse one without OG. To me it's a lateral move.

I agree with some stuff here og is consistently overrated by raps fans BUT he has way more value than capela even for the raptors who lack a big. There is a shortage of quality wing defenders in the league who can hit the 3 overpaid rim running centers shouldn’t be too hard to find . Terrible for raps they’re getting killed value wise.

Even for Mikal bridges trading for capela gets you fired lobsided deal!
