Why the Jazz do this: As they continue to embrace the tank, the Jazz offload their remaining veterans in Clarkson, Gay, Bogdanovic, Conley, and Beasley. Taking on Russell Westbrook's expiring contract means gaining the Lakers' future 1st round picks. The Jazz are obviously trying not to win games, which means losing their veterans is not a big loss. As part of the Conley trade, they take on Devonte' Graham's contract but gain an additional first-round pick. In terms of the Bogdanovic trade, they pick up multiple expiring contracts as well as multiple second-round picks. All of these trades result in future assets while freeing up playing time for the young guys. With these trades, the Jazz will have a total of 24 picks over the next 7 years, with 15 being first-rounders.

Why the Pelicans do this: After trading away Jrue Holiday, the Pelicans have been missing their perfect point guard. Mike Conley allows you to have a former all-star player while also providing a veteran presence to the team. Additionally, you get to shed yourself of Devonte' Graham's contract while only having to give a first-round pick to do it.

Why the Lakers do this: This offseason, it has become apparent that the Lakers are desperate to win while LeBron is on the team. The Westbrook experiment is over and while parting ways with their remaining two first-round picks, they allow themselves to become contenders with serviceable veterans and a sharpshooter.

Why the Suns do this: After getting eliminated by the Mavericks in the 2nd round, the Suns are looking for a way to improve. To do this, they get a serviceable wing in Bogdanovic while only having to lose a rotational piece in Crowder and a bench veteran in Saric.

Lakers added Jones and Bryant means Davis will play PF which means LeBron is at the 3.
