Brown would have to decline the supermax (unlikely), and then he'd have to agree to an extension with SA (unlikely), or the Spurs would do the deal knowing he's a rental (unlikely), and if that were to all happen (very unlikely), it would have to be the best offer Boston got (unlikely) .

So crazy I didn't even read the whole trade. The Brown trades are premature, he's not going to Portland either way.

Is Jaylen Brown worth the supermax that he thinks he is?

Nightcap, I don't think Brown is worth the Supermax and I doubt Boston does either. Boston can trade Brown without offering any extension, since he is under contract. Brown is going to Portland in this trade, so he would be negotiating an extension with Portland not SA. Why it is unlikely that Brown declines an extension to play with Dame? This is a boatload of assets from the Spurs for a player that Boston should want to get rid of (for the right price), because the alternative is offering the Supermax, which everyone agrees, Brown is not worth. By the way, Boston is the only team able to offer the Supermax to Brown. If they trade him, his next contract will be for less with any other team. More in line with reality. I think it is at least plausible if not likely that Boston tries to trade Brown rather than re-signing him. Whether or not this is the best deal Boston receives for Brown depends on how much a team is willing to pay Brown. Whoever trades for him will want to get his blessing if not an outright long term commitment. Otherwise he is a one-year rental. Portland wants an all-star wing for the #3 pick. They could trade directly with Boston if the Celtics would prefer #3 over the Spurs assets.
