jaylen brown, pritchard to spurs

dejounte, keldon, primo, 2022 first, 2024 first

spurs get one of the best players players in the league. celtics get some young pieces that fit around tatum

I like this for both teams.

J Brown is the better player, but Dejounte could be a good fit next to Tatum and those first round picks give boston the flexibility to trade for another good piece.

Not Sure the spurs would give up first rounders, they like their picks and have a good track record developing players.

If it were up to me, I'd be open to trading Brown and this would be an attractive package.

the problem with the celtics is that marcus smart is not a starting point guard. he is a 6th man on a top team. and that's that. and he's going to be traded at the deadline.

Marcus Smart is not getting traded. He may not be a true PG, but he's a 30+ minute player whose value is almost impossible to quantify. He makes an enormous difference on both sides of the ball.

marcus smart is one of the many problems on the celtics. with both brown and tatums ability to create their own shot and desire to do it all themselves. celtics would probably benefit most from a pg playing a mario chalmers type role for miami back in the day. knock down 3s and put the ball where it needs to go when it swings to you, but don't run a lot of pick and rolls and dominate it like most pgs do.

I agree that Boston would benefit from having a plus distributor, but Marcus Smart is very far from being a problem for them. What they are hoping for is that Tatum and Brown will grow in that regard, as many other star players have done as they've matured. Tatum is much closer to getting there than Brown is.

a 6 fut 4 220 pound career 38/ 32 is a problem. too small to guard the 3s and gets exposed by elite 1s. so you're paying a premium for a guy who can really only guard the elite 2s. he's not bruce bowen. a 6 fut 7 guy who could guard the elite 2 and 3s while shooting 40 from the 3.i could be wrong but a guy like malcolm bragdon is a level above the overrated smart. a situational player. well soon find out whn marcus smart is gone.

disagree shifT101 on chalmers-type player. its a lateral move at best and most likely a downgrade. its a healthy brogdon or nothing if the celtics decide to go for it this year which i'm pretty sure they do. imo marcus smart is a 25 minute player at best and that does not include on a championship team. maybe 15-18 there. he's undersized for a defensive specialist and if you look at his assist per game even those could be understated as many of his passes don't appear to be on mark. he's jsut not an elite level passer to go along wiht his terrible shooting. it wouldn't surprise me at all if a healthy brogdon came in and started averaging 8, 9 assist a game. since a lot of smarts "perceived" value is because of intrinsics like hustle and energy. what happens if smart starts getting injured? . does he start shooting 35 and 25? this guy is such an easy person to get rid of.

Smart is their leader on both ends of the floor, and he often switches onto opposing 3s, 4s, and even 5s, and he holds his own. It maybe cliched but his value does not show up on the stat sheet but his impact is immense. He's most likely not getting traded for a long time because it'd be almost impossible to get equal value since it's so hard to gauge.

imo, smart is getting traded because he still has a place as a 6th man situational player that can win playoff games and would be an excellent 15-18 min player on an elite team and there is value in his contract. people saying he's worth a 1st round pick are utterly delusional. the idea of smart being your leader is like his shooting . horrible. i remember when prime jason kidd used to make fun of his poor shooting always referencing his rebounding. the funny thing is that his shooting prcenteaged are better than smart.
