I think this puts them on a similar path that the Nets took. The Knicks need Superstars. You need Stars to win in this league. But no stars want to come to the Knicks until they show signs of a changing culture and more importantly winning. The Nets did similar things. They didn't tank for years and get lottery picks. They showed a culture improvement and they started winning and made the playoffs as the 8th seed. That showed KD and Kyrie that they could put them over the top. The Knicks need to do the same. I think reuniting with Melo after they unfairly scapegoated him and ran him out of town when he was the least of their problems could right the ship and he could retire a Knick which would make for a nice story and he could provide leadership and a good mentor for Knox in the process. Paul would be a great leader and floor general that the Knicks have desperately needed for so many years. He and Melo are both high character guys on their way to the Hall of Fame. That combined with Jamal Crawford's scoring off the bench and a proven defensive genius and winning track record in Thibadeau at the helm, as well as Leon Rose running operations who has a good relationship with many players in the league such as CP3, Melo, and a younger generation that the Knicks should be targeting like KAT, Booker, and others.

Thought they had an option on Harkless? Sorry if I stand corrected. If that's the case then you could plug Portis or Gibson who do have options into that same trade instead to fill the salary and just sign a cheap big man to come off then bench to replace them.
