I like the trade idea. I like Whiteside as a FA using the MLE. Not sure Portland will re-sign since they have Nuric and Collins returning.

True, they historically, don't trade 1sts, but the Spurs also don't miss the playoffs. They have a new GM and want to make the most of Pop's remaining year (s) . They might trade a 1st for the right young player (s) .

Just think Spurs do better trading LMA and Derozen. Draft someone like Vassell @ #11 (so seems like a Spur-type player) . Trade DeRozen for Gordon.

As usual Fredman, you missed the point of the post. Or you simply didn't care.

My point is that the Spurs want to win now while Pop is still around.

Trading LMA or DeRozen were not part of this proposal. So why bring it up. But since YOU brought it up, there is NO scenario whereby the Spurs are better in the short term (next 3 years) by trading LMA and DeRozen.

When I said the Spurs might trade a first for a good young player (s), I meant the players mentioned in this trade proposal Oubre, Jr. and Bridges. Both of which are better short term prospects than Vassell or anyone the Spurs would draft at #11 in 2020.

And lastly,
DeRozen > Gordon in 2020
DeRozen > Gordon in 2021
DeRozen > Gordon in 2022

DeRozen > Gordon in 2030.

Not sure about "wanting to win in Pops final years". I think Pop wants to make sure Becky has a good team to hand off to her. He wants to make sure the first female coach is successful. Having aging expensive vets does not accomplish this.

FYI swapping Oubre for Derozen and a first round talent is not going to win help the Spurs win a significant amount of games in the short term.
