Call it a knee jerk reaction, but Russ should be traded from Houston. He doesn't fit what they are doing. Small ball has worked but not with him on the floor. The rockets will have so much money tied up in his contract.

Bulls get Russ, McLemore
***Bulls feel like a good fit for Russ: starved for a franchise star, in the East, lowered expectations. He can have the ball and play his brand of basketball instead of being shoehorned into a bad system fit.

Rockets get Porter, Young, lottery protected future first
***Rockets need to move on. The small ball lineup is working without Russ and these two guys could be good fits. Plus getting SOME kind of asset for Russ helps.

Like I said: knee jerk. But I don't think Russ belongs in Houston. Where should they look to move him to??

It’s not knee jerk. I said from the second I heard about the trade that the fit was absolutely terrible.

The problem is that westbrook is good enough to lead a team to a decent record alone, but his style and skills don’t really mesh well as a second option, especially next to another guard or wing. He’s like the better version of Derozan (or a shorter, worse Giannis) . That’s why a lot of people wouldn’t want Westbrook at all.

That said, I could see Chicago or Charlotte being good destinations. Maybe Orlando too. Franchises desperate for some success.

I feel that's not enough?

OKC trades Westbrook for Paul (at absolute lowest value), two future firsts, and two pick swaps. That equates to maybe one first for Westbrook, the rest for Paul’s bad contract? Factoring that, I don’t think the value in the trade is bad.

Westbrook is still a All-NBA calibre player.

New York. They have the room and almost no talent. Westbrook can play hero ball there all he wants. Much, much, much easier to field a decent team in the East. One or two decent players can get you into the playoffs in the East.

Oh, and who says Paul's contract is bad? It's a lot of money, but he also brought the Thunder up from what was projected to be the worst team in the league to a top ten team. He has been the best clutch player in the league stactisticly this year, too. He has completely earned every cent of his contract and that's not even including all his leadership intangibles. A bad contract is one that doesn't get the production for the salary. Harris, Horford, Millsap, Wall, etc.

2 bad performances off of an injury and playing less then 10 games in like 6 months after averaging like 31-7-7 with a 48% FG% from December-March and people try saying he doesn’t work with small ball.

I've watched Westbrook for ten years. Great stats during the regular season against average and bad teams, along with some good teams, but when playoffs start all teams are good and it shows, every year, that he can't shoot the ball as he tries to take over games at the end, has bad defense, and is a turnover machine. Houston may win the series today, but this Westbrook trade was supposed to make them elite. It didn't. Time to move away from small ball. If Houston has been stretched to seven games by a team that was supposed to be rebuilding, the trade didn't work.
