If Towns does want out and Minnesota looks to trade him, they should trade Russell as well. But, because this is supposed to be the best draft, they should focus on getting picks for the 2021 draft instead (since their pick might go to Golden State) . So, here are two trade ideas.

Atlanta gets Towns and Okogie
Minnesota gets Capela, Huerter, Hunter, and Atlanta's 2021 and 2023 1st round pick, unprotected

Phoenix gets Russell
Minnesota gets Rubio, Cam Johnson, and Phoenix's 2021 1st round pick, unprotected.

Minnesota drafts Ball no 1 and can ease him into the lineup with Rubio starting, as the are similar players. Minnesota would now have a defensive minded big with a PG who distributes, surrounded by wings who can either shoot or player defense, which is what the GM wants.

I like it.

Seems like Minnesota would want Collins from Atlanta as the centerpiece if they sent Towns there.

Agree with Bmiller, Collins would be required. Not a bad trade though.

Agree that Collins would have to be the center piece in any Towns trade with Atlanta. I suggested Collins+Hunter+2020+2021 with some protection. No real interest in Capela, as he wouldn’t fit the new time line for the Wolves.

KAT to Atlanta seems plausible with some tweaks like above, but that feels like too much for Dlo. I feel like would be willing to take the contract, if they just had to throw in a heavily protected pick or something, but that’s about it.

Before I start, I will note that the whole towns rumor came from what one I identified player thinks KAT will do. Towns just got Russell and seems elated. Moreover, MIN has Towns locked up for four more years (not even a player option on the end), and since getting a star is so difficult in MIN, it’s hard to believe they’d trade one they have locked up.

So, if MIN was willing to trade KAT, this isn’t a bad iteration.

I disagree that they would want Collins. He reportedly wants the max, and with Capella on the books for three years, $55, MIN would not get the financial flexibility that generally comes from a star deal.

I agree that if KAT goes, Russell should go too. However, On his max deal, I doubt he is even as valuable as Rubio is to the team, let alone adding an unprotected 1st.
