Seems like a first would need to be going from the Kings to the Hawks.

Not sure I would agree, BMiller. With Collins being a RFA at the end of the season and not excepting anything short of a max offer. Also, add in that Collins numbers have significantly dropped so far this season. Just not willing to give up a lottery pick for someone that the Hawks may not even try to resign at the end of the season.

Also, would much rather go after Clint Capela than Collins. Kings need defenders and rebounders which is what Capela "excels" at.

@BMiller

This trade give Atlanta time.
Collins is a RFA and it seems that they're not going to give him a big contract, so they can switch him for Bagley and they win an extra year. Bagley still has potential to develop in a star.

Do you really believe that Bagley has a higher value than Collins? Can’t see that at all. What backs that up? His stats sure don’t, nor does his playing history. Granted he was drafted higher, but that’s it. College doesn’t count anymore. His father doesn’t help either. Not a bad player, just not John Collins (at least not yet) .

But Bagley is decidedly worse right now. I get the contract stuff and all of that, but Collins is still a 23 year old borderline all star. I expect him to have as much or more potential to develop as Bagley.

I just don’t see any way you can value Bagley more than Collins.

That said, if the answer is “I wouldn’t give up that much for him”, I get that. But I think Atlanta will look for a haul if they decide to move him.

21 Jan 2021 21:33:31
@BMiller, Atlanta is not going to get a "haul" for Collins from a team willing to pay him max. The word on the street is that Atlanta will not match a max offer (because they will not offer him a max deal) . So why should I trade anything to Atlanta? Just wait until the offseason and give a max offer to Collins.

@TJG129, In the past, we have discussed that a player's "value" is a relative thing. Is having Bagley's lower stats on a cheaper contract that the Hawks have a chance of resigning a better "value" then Collins stats at a $27 mil year clip? Hell, Capela is doing relatively the same stats as Collins this year, but only costs $18 mil per year. These decisions are why GM make the big bucks.
