So for the 1st trade to go through Kawhi would first have to opt in to his contract. So in effect Miami is trading Herro and a 25 1st (conditionally, because the '23 1st they already traded is lotto protected) for Kawhi's Bird rights. Pat Riley has always been a gambler, but this is an awfully big gamble to take. Essentially the only thing they're getting guaranteed is a year of Kawhi's rehab.
