Mavericks get Ben Simmons and Al Horford

76ers get Marcus Smart, Tim Hardaway Jr., the right to swap 2022 first round picks with Dallas, and a top 3 protected 2025 first round pick from Dallas

Celtics get Kristaps Porzingis and a top 3 protected 2027 first round pick from Dallas

Not sure how I feel about this trade for the Celtics, but it makes sense to me in that they create cap space, add size, and get a draft asset. Schroeder/Brown/Tatum/Porzingis/Williams would create matchup issues for anyone. I think it's fairly obvious how the 76ers and Mavericks benefit.

Can’t see the Celtics giving the Sixers Smart

12 Oct 2021 19:02:33
Boston would rather have Al Horford than Porzingis, nevermind also giving up Smart.

12 Oct 2021 19:46:14
The Celtics love Horford. He's not going anywhere. Smart to Philly? Preposterous.

12 Oct 2021 20:11:51
Al Horford over Porzingis? Lmao okay sure, whatever you say.

12 Oct 2021 20:57:26
With the report that Porzingis was unhappy with his role as the #2 in Dallas, would he be happier as the #3 in Boston? Horford’s ability to be happy no matter his role is a selling point, even if he’s incredibly overpaid. He’s still a really solid contributor.

Factor in Smart too, and it’s not very close to me.

Casual, if you don't think Boston would rather have Horford, then you don't follow the Celtics. It's a no doubter. Keep the contracts in mind as well.

12 Oct 2021 23:26:52
as someone who is familiar with the celtics I can safely say that it is not a "no doubter". let's keep horford's age in mind and the current state of the team. Do you realistically see the celtics winning a championship within the next two years? same reason why they would be open to trading smart to philly. Unless you're a delusional celtics homer you'd realize that they aren't going to get emotional in building their franchise. yea, they should consider personalities and chemistry w/ kp, but this team needs time to compete for a ship so adding a younger player with higher upside that can play alongside williams makes some sense.

13 Oct 2021 02:53:08
So you live in Boston ahooper? Haven't seen you around. I'm telling you, Boston would rather have Horford than Porzingis. Believe it or not I don't care but that's what it is.

13 Oct 2021 10:51:41
@Casual. The only thing KP has on Horford is age and height. But KP has never been the player Horford has been. Maybe it's the injuries, maybe not. But he comes with 3 years and 100 million dollar contract. Horford has 2 years at half that a yhe 2nd year is not guaranteed.
In case you haven't paid attention, but the Celtics are trying to open up salary for a possible run at Beal or another free agent. KP does not help them with that.

13 Oct 2021 13:24:48
JoeB did I imagine KP averaging 20/ 9 last year? Pretty sure that happened. He has a lot more on Horford than just age and height. This move creates cap space for the Celtics so I'm not sure what your rant there is about. Even in the longterm it saves cap space when you consider Smart's 5 year deal.

13 Oct 2021 13:37:15
Boston spent the off-season creating flexibility by acquiring tradable contracts, either through trade or extension. They are not going to ruin that by trading for a player that they have zero interest in.

13 Oct 2021 16:06:26
When is Smart available to be traded because of the signed extension? Mid-Jan? Doubt Philly is waiting that long to move Simmons.

13 Oct 2021 16:08:00
Casual. maybe he did, but he will never have those numbers in Boston.
He wouldn't have the opportunity to get them on a regular basis.
Would much rather have Horford, who is a better fit for the J's.
I really don't have to worry, because the Celtics aren't going to trade for KP.

13 Oct 2021 21:13:48
Lmao so you haven't seen me around Boston? That's your reply . Solid point fredman hadn't considered that philly got to make this move asap.

13 Oct 2021 22:02:55
Ahooper, I mean you said you are familiar with the Celtics. A lot of people are. What does that mean?

14 Oct 2021 03:08:13
You'd recognize me in the street?

14 Oct 2021 09:48:02
You're getting a little literal there. You said you're familiar with them. I'm just asking you what that means. Anybody who follows the NBA is familiar with them. You can't be that familiar with them if you think they would take that player, so I'm guessing you don't live here.

14 Oct 2021 23:53:02
I hope you make more educated guesses and form solid opinions based on basketball knowledge bro.
