Celtics would never do this. It’s terrible for them and would greatly improve a division rival.

23 Dec 2021 09:41:30
The Celtics are in the eight seat. they need to do something.
J Brown is a great and undervalued player, but Fox seems a better fit, next to Tatum. Milton is a good roll player and Bagley can get a second chance in Boston

Fox = J Brown
Milton+ Bagley =.

23 Dec 2021 10:08:36
They could use something, but the idea that they need to do a major shakeup is shortsighted to say the least.

celtics getting killed here.

23 Dec 2021 17:24:52
Yea let's start Kanter at the 4, that'll be awesome.

23 Dec 2021 17:38:19
I’m surprised so many think this is bad for Boston. Fox and Brown are equal. Taking a chance on Bagley seems like a great gamble.

Obviously Kanter wouldn’t start, it would be literally anyone else. But aside from that, I like this for them.

I really don’t think I like this for Sacramento. Halliburton has been too good to let go. I definitely wouldn’t give up him, Barnes, and Bagley for Simmons.

23 Dec 2021 18:51:07
Fox may equal Brown, but Bagley and Milton don't quite equal Smart. They should but haven't lived up to it yet. All fantasy anyway since Brown isn't available.

23 Dec 2021 20:04:49
For trade value, Bagley and Milton equal Smart.

Smart is a lot like McCollum. The team they’re on value them a lot more than their actual trade value.

Smart is worth a non lottery first to me. That’s about it.

23 Dec 2021 22:31:29
Let's say that's true; if his worth to Boston is higher than his trade value, they keep him. Do you guys judge these trades on value alone, or what's actually realistic?

23 Dec 2021 23:31:14
Well, value. I don’t base it on how you or the reason management value players. I base it on how -I- value players. If we only do what is strictly actually realistic, it would be a pretty boring site.

I agree that Smart is probably never traded. Boston will cling onto him because they just can’t fathom that he’s not as good as they think he is.

24 Dec 2021 01:28:54
Smart is a very unusual player whose value is difficult to gauge. He's a defensive player yet the team's offense performs much better when he's on the court. He shoots like crap but it's nice having a PG who can switch onto just about anyone and put up a fight. Maybe he's not as good as they think he is, which is hard to tell, but they do know that they're a much better team when he's playing. That's something that some people have trouble wrapping their heads around.

24 Dec 2021 03:09:07
That may be true, but maybe they’d play better with someone else that isn’t him. It’s a self fulfilling prophecy when you play him with the best players and then say “see, the team plays best when he’s on the floor”. Where does he rank in the list of starting PGs in the league? Is he even top 25?

If he’s one of the top 4 players on a team, that’s a really bad thing. But he’s a really good 5-7 guy. He’s a short Larry Nance.

24 Dec 2021 06:54:50
Where he ranks depends on how much you value half the game, which is defense. How do you value leadership and toughness? ESPN and SI had him ranked as the 60th and 49th best player respectively heading into the season. In a 30 team league, that's pretty far from adding up to the 5th to the 7th best player on a team. I'm not sure how many Celtics games you watch but he makes a very big impact. You certainly wouldn't trade him for 2 guys who have struggled for minutes. Comparing him to Larry Nance who seems soft as butter is interesting. The comp I've heard most often is Draymond Green and I'd say that makes a lot more sense.

25 Dec 2021 13:25:16
brown is significantly better than fox let's keep it real.

27 Dec 2021 13:24:50
the celtics have six top 50 defensive players by way of ranker. brown, tatum, richardson, smart, horford and williams. i don't think losing smart. in favor of gettign a 50/ 40 20+ point guard scorer. is giong to drastically affect their team defense come playoff time. this team is close.
