Makes little since to Atlanta.

16 Jan 2022 14:07:22
I think it makes a lot of sense for Atlanta but none for Boston. Atlanta needs D and has had interest in Smart, but this trade leaves Boston with who at the point?

@ Nightcap

Schroeder, Pritchard and Richardson (now and then), at least until Brad Stevens realizes that he needs to trade for a PG asap. Derrick White should be the main (somewhat) feasible target. If not him, Coby White, who’s underrated IMO.

Schroeder is a goner, Pritchard is not a starting caliber PG, and Richardson can just sub there. I can't judge the trade by what else may come after, only by what is presented, and what is presented doesn't work.

Also keep in mind, Boston sees Tatum's Ideal position to be a the 3.

16 Jan 2022 19:24:01
Don’t Brown and Tatum basically do the majority of the ball control/ play making in Boston? I never really saw Smart as a PG except because of height.

16 Jan 2022 19:42:14
@Nightcap. Send a 2023 first to Dallas for Brunson. LOL!

16 Jan 2022 20:11:19
They are trying to work their way towards that but currently Smart is their best ball mover and passer. It's a very tricky situation because they could use better point gaurd play, yet Smart is irreplaceable for what he brings and they want to play bigger. I don't see how they can have it all.

16 Jan 2022 23:29:16
I get Boston loves Smart, but the fact that the franchise considers him “irreplaceable” really shows the underlying issues with the franchise. He’s a below average starting PG. They treat him like a star. I get it for fans, the management shouldn’t get this enamored with a player. (This was the issue that led most Blazer fans to want Olshey fired, so I totally get it) .

17 Jan 2022 00:14:51
Boston must think Smart is their Draymond Green lol.

17 Jan 2022 00:49:51
Smart has a lot of the same qualities as Green, and that's the comparison I've heard the most from people who cover the sport. He's a smaller version, leader, tough, defender, not a great offensive player. It's pretty obvious where the comparison comes from.

It's not that he's irreplaceable, but he's practically untradable if you can't get just as much of an impactful player back. I understand that you guys who don't see every game can't see that, but if I didn't see that I wouldn't be so hesitant to trade him.

17 Jan 2022 01:22:39
Smart is the poooooooooooooor man’s Draymond.

I’d say Smart and Draymond compare like Steph Curry and CJ McCollum.

17 Jan 2022 01:36:10
And don't forget, part of the reason why Smart is compared to Green is because of each player's deficiencies. So it's not all good.

17 Jan 2022 13:03:15
"Smart is their best ball mover and passer. ". that is so horrible on so many different levels for a team that was supposedly trying to compete for an ecf before the season.

17 Jan 2022 15:04:04
Yes and that has been a big weakness of theirs.
