Latest rumors out of local news in Sacramento.

Kings engaged in talks with Atlanta to acquire John Collins WITHOUT including the #4 pick (Barnes+lottery protected first) .

That would be coming out of Sacramento. LMFAO ???.

That would be pretty good for Sacramento.

Hopefully Portland can beat that. Collins is probably my highest hope for a draft day trade.

It sounds ridiculous but it also seems like Atlanta has been surprisingly willing to move Collins for a while. It's like they don't want his contract.

@Nightcap. I think the meager return for Christian Wood MAY have some influence on Collin's asking price.

Then I see this

Via Charania’s recurring “Inside Pass with Shams” column (emphasis mine) :

The Kings are becoming increasingly comfortable drafting at No. 4 in Thursday’s draft and have described a steep price for teams behind them in the lottery who are attempting to trade up, sources said.  Sacramento general manager Monte McNair has engaged in conversations around Hawks forward John Collins — among a slew of other established, productive players in the market — but there has been no involvement of the No. 4 pick in the discussions centered on Collins, and McNair will ultimately make the decision on the pick, according to sources.

@Fredman maybe but Collins is still far better than Wood. If Portland offers #7 I don't see how Sacramento gets him without giving up #4. If I'm Atlanta the conversation starts and ends with #4.

@ShaqIsBack. Collins may be more talented, but Wood's contract is much more acceptable.

Also, seriously doubt that Portland is giving up #7 for Collins. If anything, Portland will be trading down to #12 and send it with Bledsoe to Atlanta. However, the difference between receiving Bledsoe and Barnes is also significant. Additionally, I don't know how much cap space Portland is willing to give up in order to make offers on Bridges and/ or Ayton.

Collins is under contract for 4 more years, and Wood will be expiring contract next year, hence the meager return in his trade. You don’t give up a lot for a one year rental, particularly one who isn’t a star. As a Hawks fan I’ll be pissed if we trade Collins at all, but I sure as hell ain’t trading him for less than #4 pick. Who on trade market will offer a better player than Collins for 4, on a long term deal.
