Pistons blow it up and tank plan

Pistons send Blake Griffin
Twolves send Wiggins, Saric, Okogie, and 3 first round picks.

So it may seem like a lot for the Wolves to pay, but Wiggins is a net zero at best. So it’s essentially a Saric, Okogie, and 3 picks. Compare that too the last Blake deal: Tobias Harris (who just went for 2 first rounder plus Landry Shamet), Avery Bradley, Boban, and a first. Yes, Blake is another year older, but I was never more impressed with his game than this year, his ball handling and shooting were incredible. Blake’s also a tremendous fit next to KAT due to the spacing KAT provides.

Pistons get a great tank commander in Wiggins who hopefully could develop himself as the #1 option on a rubbish team. Okogie and Saric are young quality pieces and picks are always great.

Trade 2
Pistons send Andre Drummond to Kings
Kings send Harrison Barnes to the Hornets
Hornets send Nic Batum and Malik Monk to Pistons

Kings also send 2 2019 second round picks to Detroit. (Kings currently have 4 I believe) .

Kings desperately need rebounding and Drummond brings all of that, plus he’s really mobile for running with Fox. Yes it’s a bad contract but they already have a bad contract on the books with Barnes who may be the main culprit for the collapse this year as he was awful and may not be popular with the team. In fact this move could save the Kings money if it prevents them from resigning Cauley-Stein. Drummond’s contract lines up nicely with Giles’ timeline.

Batum might be the worst contract in league, they get off of 2 additional years of big money and they get a productive big wing defender as MKG hits the market. You have to pay for the move by moving Monk, but he keeps under achieving, he doesn’t fit with Kemba, and that Batum contract is really really bad.

Piston start the tank. They go from no shooting to a ton of young options in the backcourt and a theoretical difference maker on the Wing. That’s a good versatile corps to go through a tank with, drafting some difference making front court players in 20 would could get the Pistons back to relevancey quickly. Maybe not these deals, but this kind of scenario is kind of likely as the Pistons new FO is super innovative and driven by analytics, so tanking may be on the table.

Trade 3.
Pistons send Reggie Jackson
Heat send Hassan Whiteside

Crap for crap, both deals expire at the same time. Heat will want to do it just because Jackson is cheaper on an annoyingly expedite yet bad Heat roster and it can clear a bit of a log jam at Center. Pistons need to get Reggie and his attitude out, plus it’ll force the young backcourt players to play and I mean someone has to play in the front court.

Pistons young corps: Luke Kennard, Malik Monk, Josh Okogie, Andrew Wiggins.

Blake isn't worth one first and the players you want.

Drummond needs to go on diet especially as he gets older, I question his fitness for a full season. You don't want hear that when you making 25 mil per season.
